I've been to Taichi a few times now and I personally think they have the best hot pot in the South bay! Their mala broth is perfect, not overly salty/spicy and packs great flavor. It's a must-try with Kobe beef! They're very generous with their portions and you can taste the quality of the ingredients. There's also AC so, this is the perfect place to satisfy your hot pot cravings in the summer! Servers are friendly and attentive. :)

I'm actually sort of conflicted on what I think of this place. As a restaurant, it's not bad. But compared to other hotpot or shabu restaurants I simply cannot recommend this place in relation to others. Starting off, you get some complementary edamame which are nice and most of the fountain drinks also give you refills which in itself, is also very pleasant. The broth was quite unfortunate as I didn't like the seafood broth and can't eat many spicy things. It's unfortunate there isn't a meat based broth which I would have loved. I don't think there was even just plain water. The meat was pretty good and was marbled just as well as other hotpot restaurants. The portions were a little lacking but I saw no bad things about the meat. Kobe Beef is what I got and it was nothing short of delicious. However I found it quite annoying that I had to order vegetables desperately instead of having an assortment on a platter. For example if I want lettuce, tofu, and other vegetables, I have to buy a whole bowl of them whereas if I'm eating solo I'd just like a handful of them. This racks up the price pretty fast. Afterwards they give you a shot of passion fruit juice which was a little bitter but it was still complementary so there's no complaints there. Service was good! But maybe a little too attentive. Me and my friend were eating a little late and we were one of the only two tables left so they tended to check up on us every 5 minutes while we were trying to converse which was slightly annoying but understandable as I myself am a waiter and don't usually know what to do when there's nothing else to do. Overall Taichi Hotpot is a well-rounded establishment! If there were a few more choices in the broth and perhaps a more flexible system which choosing what you want to order, I'd say this place would be amazing.

If you're a big fan or wujis or Little Dipper, you'll probably leave disappointed at taichi mala pot. Service was great, place was clean, and I love how they give u an extra table for your side dishes (so you have more room on the table) so I give this place a three stars. Starters- Edamame beans Broth- The mala was a bit too salty and wasn't spicy as expected. Broth tastes very similar to little sheep Mongolian hotspot. So if you like that kind of taste, this place is definitely for u. There are two other broths but I haven't tried those yet. Meat- They give you perfect portions which I liked. Sides- Veggies that usually are complimentary, Did not come for free. I was pretty disappointed at the fact you have to order the veggies on the side. Every other hot pot place has veggies/sides for free and whatever else u order extra. But they did have taro! Which was good. Pork blood looked weird so I'm probably never gonna order it again. Desert- Free passion fruit juice, pretty good! Overall. Three stars for the service and cleanliness of the place. Food was mediocre. And veggies should BE FREE. I saw many people order the veggies on the side and they wasted a whole bunch. No point Probably won't be coming back tho. Wujis and Little Dipper all the way!

Remember to Checkin with yelp to see your special offers Restaurant has plenty of parking and is YAHP (yet another hot pot). Modern clean interior. Meat quality comes in a few options. The more expensive ones are marbled and has a nice mix of fat and beef. One minus star for having saran wrap or some sort of plastic with their beef. I was chewing and had to spit it out. Friendly and fast service.

Tai chi, in my opinion, exerts the balance of good food and good service. It embodies the quality and freshness of the meat and vegetable; the balance of the soup that blends the taste together perfectly. And good service! They were all very attentive and friendly. One of my favorites hotpot place. Tai chi - Keep it up!

It is Labor Day and they are still open at 830! The price without the deal is pretty high up there but you can always do this "post something on yelp and get BOGO", which is what we did here and it was worth it! There are tofu comes with the spicy soup base. The fish soup base is pretty light. Service is friendly. Food comes really fast.

I really like this place! Pros: 1. Excellent service - Servers come check in on you at the right frequency, always refilling your water and the hot pot. The food comes out fast, and they bring you a nice shot of drinking vinegar (?) at the end, and they are always so friendly. 2. Typically, no lines! Huge plus esp. considering the wait at the other places nearby. 3. I personally love the music they play, ha. 4. The spicy pot is delicious!! 5. I love the sauces. Cons: 1. Minor, but it's always freezing. 2. The non-spicy broth is kinda meh.

Where to go to satisfy a hot pot craving in the south bay? Admittedly, I am not very well versed in the field of hot pot, so when cravings hit, I hopped onto Yelp to do my research and assess the options. With 4 stars and a BOGO deal, Taichi was the the pick of the night. On a Wednesday evening at 7:30pm, the restaurant is empty save for 2 other tables. Was this a bad sign? My friends and I were about to find out. All items are a la carte. You receive a paper menu with all the options, and you mark the items you would like. We opted for: half mala half umami broth, 1 lamb, 1 of all of the beefs, napa cabbage, fish balls, beef tendon balls, vermicelli, and enoki mushrooms. The Mala broth flavor reminds me of frozen pizza pocket pepperoni...not necessarily in a bad way, just an intriguing and unexpected one. It contains tofu and lots of herbs and spices. Comparatively, the other broth is bland. The meats are pretty good quality, however the table's favorite was angus. The fish balls, beef tendon balls, and enoki mushrooms are average. Napa cabbage is a good sized portion. The server was very polite and attentive, however whenever he attempted to explain anything (the menu, the bogo deal, etc), we ended up more confused than before. We checked in on Yelp for free drinks (tea or fountain drinks only), and liked the Facebook page for the BOGO deal. All in all, a decent meal, but I would not likely return considering the other options for hot pot in the South Bay.

If you've been to the popular Little Sheep Mongolian chains this place will be very familiar. Pluses: great quality meat, refills of broth are not just hot water, service is good, umami broth is tasty, free tofu floating in the mala broth, free dipping sauces and free edamame! Room for improvement: the spicy broth at little sheep has better flavor We will be back!

This place is ok. It seems like a lot of places are following the Little Sheep mongolian hotpot model. The selection of items is alright. I think they could honestly do a bit more like with veggies and add things like dumplings. Portions aren't the greatest either. Overall, I wouldn't mind coming back here but I wouldn't necessarily crave it either,

  • Michele C.

Great experience! Good quality cuts of meat and fresh vegetables. So glad that there's a half and half option for broth, because the Mala and umami are both really savory. A lot more casual and relaxed than other hot pot places which I'm very happy about. Easier to have a conversation with everyone. Service is on point and friendly. Definitely coming back.

Very flavorful and fresh. We enjoyed it. Good service, our soup was refilled often and servers came around often to check on us. There was a 15min wait despite reservation on a Wednesday night. Used to Little Sheep with their tongs and base plate which makes eating quite a lot easier.

The decor is very modern and dark. There are two televisions. The kitchen is right next to the dining area which creates and adds to environment I think. I really enjoyed the mala broth, which is super flavorful, and I preferred it over the umami broth. They have my favorite topping that I can't seem to find in any other hot pot place- egg dumpling!! For this hot pot, you put everything in yourself- which is an aspect I really enjoyed. They give you two dipping sauces one peanut and one shacha sauce. The shacha sauce fits the hot pot better. You also get complimentary tofu with the mala broth. Kobe imperial and srf are so good. Better than lean. If you are looking for something fattier, choose srf- so gooddd. Imperial is amazing as well but not as fatty. The fish fillet is pretty fresh and the mala gives it a good kick. They give you complimentary kumquat vinegar shot after meal which cleanses your palate.

Here for the Monday's special - buy 1 get 1 free. The lamb is so delicious. Service is superb as always! This is also my kids' favorite place.

Delicious, fast, and friendly service! There's a lot of special deals, so ask your server what's available. Came here with a group of friends Monday, not to busy so we were served pretty much right away. A bit loud but the place was children friendly. Even with a party of 10 the staff did their best to accommodate us. Most likely would come back again.

Every Wednesday and Thursday there Is a buy one get one deal. Service is very attentive and we were seated instantly. The sesame and ponzu sauce were very strong. The Mala broth was reminiscent of actual Taiwanese ma-la though it lacked the strong tingling numbingness. Everything is priced rather fairly, especially for dinner. Overall, I would definitely come back again.

  • Monica L.

I really like the broth here--seaweed and dashi, though I'm not sure if there's MSG or not, as dashi based soups tend to have. Either way, it was yummy. Food was also of good quality, especially the lean wagyu yum yum! The lamb had a bit too much fat for my taste, and it was slightly gamey, but still very much edible. The fish balls with roe is another favorite, and I wish I got my own order as I got it with my balls (lol) mixed combo. The sauces are satay and sesame, and they give very little so ask for more if you're a saucy kinda person. Personally, the broth was tasty and flavorful enough for me not to need extra sauce. Overall, everything is very affordable and quite delish, though if you're a piggy like me you'll probably still come out with your wallet crying...I could see myself coming back, but I'm from LA so we'll see when the next visit will be!

Look for the shopping plaza with Ross & you'll find Taichi Pot Mala Hot Pot in this unassuming area. Came here on Sunday just after they opened for dinner, plenty of tables open & they had the Warriors game on both TV screens. This place is pretty small & only a handful of tables had vents. The upside that it looks really modern/new & was clean! Upon being seated, we were given our dipping sauces (peanut & a spicy one) & also complementary edamame which seemed like they were just washed in ice water.. Super bland. The menu was a la cart & reminded us of Little Sheep's. We were confused about some of the items so we asked the waitress who was too soft spoken and spoke broken English. We opted for the half & half broth, prime black angus beef, shrimp, fish fillet, fish dumplings, fresh tofu, vermicelli, tong ho & Napa cabbage. When the broth came out, we were immediately disappointed with the umami broth. It didn't have anything in it & was hardly flavored. The Mala broth had a lot of chili oil, not that many leaves/seasoning floating around & some Mala tofu inside. It didn't have much of a kick as we expected. The beef was good though, fresh & good marbling. The shrimp was odd.. It did not turn bright orange & was very pale even when cooked thoroughly. The fish fillet slices were so small!!! There was about 7-8 pieces on ice. The fish dumplings were an absolute joke, super tiny & consisted of just wrapper and fish cake-- don't order these. The veggies were very fresh though. Overall, the portion sizes are way too small. Dinner was about $60 for the two of us & we weren't even that full. At the end of the meal, we were given some passion fruit drink that was okay, I guess it's vinegar based. Although we didn't have to wait in line & it was decent, I wouldn't come back. Service was just okay-- hard to understand the two girls we spoke to but they refilled our water & broth frequently. I still think Little Sheep's the best hot pot in the area even though the wait can be ridiculous. Taichi just left me wanting real hot pot...

Celebrated here for my birthday! We wanted to check out a hot pot place we never tried before. They also take reservations, but not sure for small groups. We ordered pork, kobe beef, chicken, and lamb. I only tasted the kobe beef, chicken, and pork. I'm not really a huge lamb fan lol. The soup tasted great, but I did not try the spicy soup. The others told me it was very spicy though. The service was great, but not the greatest. Sometimes I had to remind them for water and forks, but it was very busy and there was only two waitresses and one waiter. They were very nice and helpful. I appreciate for their services. I would definitely come back here again and highly recommended.

This is my first ever Yelp review. Just thought I'd get that out there! We came here on a Monday night because the Yelp reviews were so good, and we were not disappointed at all. The servers were all quite friendly, helpful and attentive. The food was really, really good. First, I want to say that I've been to other Shabu Shabu places and hot pot places and their Kobe was always disappointing, but not this place. The Imperial Kobe here, is by far the best Kobe I've had at any hope pot or Shabu Shabu place. The scallops were good too. Good sized portion for a good price. Asahi beer was also $2 off. The grape fruity beer was my girlfriend's choice and I enjoyed it as well. Also my girlfriend noted that the ponzu sauce is exceptional. We would definitely come again. 4 stars because there's always room to improve! :)

Came here on a Saturday night just past 6PM and were seated right away. The menu is kind of like AYCE sushi, where they display all the fixings (with the prices next to them) and you can mark how much you want of each item next it, which is awesome. There are lots of options, broken into categories for you, such as kobe beef, lamb, chicken, seafood, and various types of vegetables. And you can get a Mala soup base, a regular Umami one, or a split one of both. We got the split soup base, with beef, pork, squash, winter melon, napa cabbage, bok choy, egg dumplings, tendon, 2 eggs, and some other stuff I can't remember off the top of my head. Everything was super flavorful - although, the Mala soup base wasn't spicy to me, but they added more spice for me, which was nice. I think they gave us a whole head of cabbage or something, because there we could barely pull it out of the bowl cuz it was so tight! Looking forward to coming back on a cold winter night (:

They have a good promotion buy 1 get 1 meat dish Monday/wed/fri and that's why my 4 stars. Taichi use to be my default restaurant to go when they first started, but after the menu change and price increase I haven't gone as often. The meat promotion is good/valid, however our bill for two people end up to be ~$60. We ordered their two kobe options and the angus beef - all had that nice meat marble flavor. The rest of the order was Lotus, cabbage, Daikon, two vermicelli noodle, mala tofu, fresh tofu. My husband thinks one of his favorite dish there, the Mala Tofu, isn't as good as before due to lessened/changed flavor and the sha-cha sauce does not taste like one of the authentic brands. Makes us wonder if they changed suppliers for ShaCha to an inferior brand. We chose the half/half mala broth and felt it doesn't taste authentic, however I can see how this soup might appeal to people looking for milder mala hot pot experience. The broth is the show-piece ingredient in a hotpot place and wish they had the spice options for pp looking for authentic mala experience!! All in all, it was a nice dinner, However I would not see this as an authentic mala hotpot place anymore and that was the main draw for me to come to this place. For people who didn't grow up loving mala hot pot, or don't know authentic mala, or want more mild mala hot pot, or looking for good hot pot meat selection, this might be a place to go.

I really enjoyed my hotspot experience at Taichi. The food was service was fast and the food delicious. My personally favorites were the blood cake, Kobe tendon and the lamb. Definitely give them a try if you're into that. Oh yeah, don't forget to ask for the satay sauce!

Taichi Hot Pot is the first chinese style hotpot restaurant I've been to that offers quality meat along with flavors that can only be found in Chinese hot pot. Most restaurants have the flavors that I'm hankering for, but totally neglect the meat. My mom and I got half umami broth (seaweed stock) and half Mala broth. Both are pretty good - Mala roth wasn't that spicy nor distinctly "mala", but still tasty. We also got the lamb and kobe beef with assortment of other veggies and other hotpot items. Their portions were so generous, we realized we ordered too much! Everything was good quality stuff, and my mom loves their pig blood curds (she grew up eating that stuff). Loving the modern vibe of the restaurant too.

Might be my favorite hot pot place so far. Similar to Japanese style shabu shabu but i honestly think the broth is much more flavorful. The spicy tofu broth was my favorite since it had the most flavor! I love the leeks that they added and it totally just melts in your mouth. Its also pretty nice having to chose what you want in your hot pot! We got Lamb Kobe beef Intestine Enoki mushroom Cabbage The bill was around $50.00 plus 10.00$ tip. Not bad!! The servers were super nice too. Minus one star because I kept waking up that night wanting to chug a sh*t ton of water.. Their broth probably has a lot of salt content. Still supppppper goood though!

  • Callie T.

Came here with a friend and we got both broths (mala/spicy and umami/seaweed). I really liked the seaweed broth; the seaweed flavor is much stronger than most other broths I've had. The spicy broth is not spicy even though it's very red. The food is fresh and high quality. The vegetable/tofu dishes are cheaper and larger in portion than Little Sheep. They give you 2 dipping sauces, ponzu and sesame, like Japanese shabu shabu, but they do have minced garlic upon request. Service is great (the waiters are very nice and patient)! The restaurant itself is clean and has good ventilation.

Tried Taichi Mala Hot Pot last night. All of the items are Ala Carte. I read the reviews and came for the high quality Beef. The beef sliced when you order and is sliced thick for hot pot standards which I like. Pros The beef is excellent Service Ventilation Plenty of tables Lots of parking Mala broth Cons Pricey al carte items

Taichi is always my go to hot pot for Mala flavored broth when Wujis is closed. The food selection here is always fresh! You can customize how spicy you want you want your broth to be and they have a half and half option for two broths. They have a wide variety of side dish options including rice pork blood cake, tripe, tendon and more! Many different kinds of beef are available. My favorite is the lamb and all slices are cut to the perfect thickness. Sauce is provided in the form of sate sauce and sesame sauce. I love that they refill your broth with the actual broth you ordered and not water. After your meal, they provide you with a digestif of apple cider vinegar and passion fruit!

My best friend reached out to me to grab dinner, sure! Let's do hot pot! Absolutely bro! Let's do this!!! Anyways I had originally wanted to go to One Pot, but Daniel wanted to really try a new spot. Normally I'd disagree with him because one pot is one of the absolute best, but it was time to try something new anyways. So we get here, and BAM! The menu is a la carte. It's essentially kind of like most other hot pot places, so that's a positive. I grab the Mala as spicy as possible, and daniel gets the taichi house broth. We had originally ordered a crap load of meat but luckily for us, we had a great server and she guided us through the menu by advising what's preferred over what's not. Anyways, we still ordered a crap load of food and boy was I ready to eat! So here's a breakdown of the review: ------------------------- BROTH: I gotta admit, the broth wasn't that great. I honestly felt the broth was the biggest letdown of the menu. Little Dipper and WuJi's really does the Mala broth right. Unfortunately, at Taichi I felt it to be the weakest part of our service. It tasted powder-y. It underwhelmed in that there was no kick to the broth, and it didn't have that distinct spicy yet flavorful taste to the broth. It honestly tasted bland, too overworked, and incomplete. I would not recommend this broth. MEAT: the highlight. Absolutely amazing meat selection that was in high quality. I felt the meat cooked thoroughly, but didn't overlook easily. It was the right thickness, and the right amount of fat per slice. I highly recommend their imperial Kobe beef. IDK wtf imperial beef is over their regular one, but hey they recommended it! VEGGIES: another highly recommend. It came out fresh, washed, and crunchy. Nothing was soggy, or crappy. The vegetable medley is all that you need. SERVICE: great. Nothing to complain about. They really go out of their way to make sure you have a pleasant experience. So kudos to them. Overall I wouldn't return. I felt the broth was really a big letdown. I did enjoy the meat and vegetables, but I couldn't get over how the broth let me down immensely. I'll go elsewhere. But this isn't bad at all.

First time here - clean and spacious. Food is clean and we got the half and half pot. The spicy is not too bad but wouldn't recommend it if you cannot handle spicy. The regular broth is good but the spicy broth is too salty for me - had to ask for the server to add more regular broth into my spicy broth to lessen the saltiness. Ordered regular beef and it's decent. Can get B1G1 on the beef. Food came out quick and the servers always keep asking if you need anything else which is a plus. Good food for a cold and rainy day but there is a lot of competition near by. Good luck!

I booked our company cohort dinner here, and we were not disappointed! Even if you are vegetarian or non-spice eater, you can get the vegetarian based soup or get the YuanYian (mix) pot that has both spicy and non-spicy soup. The collection of meat, seafood, vegetables, and noodles/rice is impressive. We got the Kobe beef, porn, squid, octopus, assortment of vegetables, and Udon noodles. The spicy soup is not just spicy but very flavorful. In short, my colleagues and I loved this place. Try it and come in a group to enjoy hot pot together!

    (5)
  • Cynthia H.

Half/half soup is my fav! The spicy side is super good because it adds a lot of flavor to whatever you put in but it's just way too spicy to drink. The other non-spicy side is great to drink! Highly recommend these ingredients to put in: Mala spicy tofu - Not too overly spicy, has a great firm ish texture so it doesn't just melt away in the hot pot Fish balls - you get a good variety of different fish balls in the platter and i love variety so it's right up my alley. Tips: instead of getting the veggie platter trio, you'd rather spend that $8 ordering 3 individual orders of veggies. You'll get a larger amount of veggies that way. Your meal comes with a starter side of edamame, your soup and ingredients to add in and ends with this fruity vinegar to cleanse your palate (love that!) Here come the cons... When I got home, I realized they had charged me for certain ingredients that we had ordered but never ended up getting. It's my fault for not realizing it on the spot but their fault for not serving it. Also when we walked in, the waiters/waitresses just stood there chatting and didn't bother to greet us or seat us. I had to walk up to them and GET their attention for them to even move. Surprisingly, service got a lot better after though so not too bad. I'll def be back! One of my fav hot pot places in the south bay! If you're into Taiwanese hot pot, this is the place for you! Similar to boiling point but even more taiwanese and it's a shared pot!

Our favorite hotpot/shabu in the South Bay! Half "Mala", Half Umami! Yum something for everybody. My kids really like this place! Meats are fresh and there is a good selection of sides to choose from. They used to include some veggies I the past, now you have to order them a la carte. Overall, still our go to spot for hotpot!

I tried Taichi for the first time yesterday and to my surprise it was really good! Taichi I would say is comparable to Little Sheep in the sense of their concept and ordering. Many reviews on here say its like Wuji or whatever but it is not. Not a personal hotpot but one large one shared among your group. You mark off what veggies, meats, seafood and other add-ons that you want for your hotpot. As most know, this can drive up your bill fairly quickly! I really liked the broth. I would say regardless, get the half and half. What we did was order that and add a few scoops of spicy broth into our non-spicy one. I for one can't eat very spicy but was able to flavor and control the spiciness level of the broth. They had a pretty good assortment of premium meats. Decent variety of vegetables and alcohol! Loved, LOVED their fruity beer! We came on a Wednesday night and it wasn't super crazy but there was a good amount of tables filled. It did take a while for us to wave the waitress down to get more water, sauce or broth refill but understandable. The poor girl was manning the restaurant floor all by herself and you can definitely see she was trying her very best to tend to everyone's needs. Super friendly service and a wonderful alternative to Little Sheep minus the massive line. Taichi is tucked in an old plaza off Homestead. Easy parking and easy to find.

We ordered two types of meat, prime Angus beef and the Australian lamb, and both were good. Lamb was on the gamey side, if you like that. The facility is clean and the service was good. We came in around 5:20pm so there were not many people, which was better for us. Overall, it was good.

Taichi. Taichi. You're one of the reason why I have a hot pot obsession. You're oh so good. I love the Mala broth. Nice and spicy. You can actually ask for extra Mala spice paste on the side so you can make it even more spicy! This spot really satisfied my cravings when wujis is closed or crowded. I also recommend asking for extra BBQ (satay) sauce, vinegar, garlic and green onions on the side to add to your dipping sauce. The customer service here is excellent! They always know what my brother and I want as soon as we sit down. I guess we come here to often. I highly recommend this place!!

This is my favorite hotpot place in the Bay Area. I highly recommend the imperial beef here; it is fresh and delicious. The soup base (I only have the regular one) is also tasty. Unlike other hotpot places, the soup is not salty and it won't make you feel thirsty after drinking it. Highly recommend this place!

Very solid addition to the South Bay hot pot scene. Pros: +Spacious, well-ventilated space +No wait on a Monday night with a group of five +Good price point and healthy portions with some good discounts on weeknights +We liked the Wagyu Kobe beef SRF a lot: well-marbled and tender +Attentive service and two separate burners for our group Cons: -Poor quality rice, described by a buddy as "buffet rice" -Music and acoustics on the loud side (fine for us, maybe not for a family) -Would have been nice to be able to choose the level of spiciness on the broth -We also felt the taste left a little bit to be desired in terms of the authentic Chinese mala-numbing flavor We will be back, especially as a relaxed, less-busy alternative to Little Sheep, Boiling Point, Shabuway, Little Dipper etc.

Meat looks thin and yummy. Not all you can eat but they offer a but 1 get 1 free deal. Soup smells delicious. This place is definitely a must try!

With so many competitors, they are okay. It is a little overpriced, if it's not for the mala soup base, I actually wouldn't go back. The mala flavor is nice, and it soaks in so well with the tofu. It's more like a 3 and 1/2 star just because it wasn't as impressing as I thought... But service was 5 stars for sure. Only two waiters outside but they are hella fast. Lol

The Good; - High quality and fresh ingredients - Incredible marbling on the wagyu beef options - Option for mixed broth (the pot is split in two) - Traditional Taiwanese hotpot, not shabu, not steamboat - Competitive prices The Not So Good: - Mala broth was delicious, but a bit overseasoned - Umami broth was the opposite; delicious but a bit underseasoned Overall, a great place to grab some pretty traditional Taiwanese hotpot. The service is fantastic. The broths are delicious, and the seasoning may just vary based on day to day consistency, so I'll rate this place a solid four stars. This may very well become my new go-to spot.

The broth ia very good, especially the unami one, so we come back to try their meat because they have buy 1 get 1 free meat! The meat is very juicy.

Not super crowded on a Friday night. We were seated within 5 minutes. Service is good, food quality is decent. The waiter is really thoughtful and responsive to our requests. We will be back!

We came in this restaurant for a lunch. A friendly waitress stopped by and introduced us various meat and items. It has beef, lamb tofu and seafood. The environment is nice with big tv and decorated tables and chairs. What's more you can refill the beverage with soda! I recommend this for people who likes hot pot and you will not regret!

I came here on a Friday at 7 pm for party of 4. Waited around 30 minutes to get seated. Restaurant smells weird, I've been to alot of ma la restaurants and they don't smell like so. We were given a piece of paper to order our meats and hotpot shenanigans. Got the Half & Half Ma La SPicy and Umami broth. Ma La broth tastes a bit more sour than Ma La to me... The Umami Broth is quite flavorful, a good one for a clear broth. Pretty fast in terms of giving us the food to cook after we gave out the order paper. fish meatball/tofu stuff: quite fresh, they may be freeze it to ensure freshness. I may be wrong. Dip your mala broth-ed food into the sesame sauce = heaven! Reminds me of eating ma la tang in the streets of Beijing. As a person who lived in Beijing and eat malatang almost everyday... I approve :) TL;DR the sesame sauce made the whole thing just perfect. Service not bad! A waiter was kinda rude but wahtever, everyone is nice.

service is alright The food is bad: ( lotus roots are can food Seafood combo are so little, and it cost 12.95 before tax... Lamb charges me 8.95, which only has little... High price and small portion... This is a restaurant I wouldn't come back. How did it get four stars?

This is the second time we're here. Love their clear soup. It's full of flavor. Trust me it's not msg, my tongue is smart. I also love their shacha sauce. It's exactly what had in Taiwan. Their menu has bunch of selections which is quite differen t from the other hot pot places. The egg dumpling and the beef stomach are my top favor. The service is perfect. The staff came often to refill the soup and water. And always with smile.

When you drive by the plaza taichi is located at, you'd never expect it to house a gem of a hot pot joint. When you walk in, you notice their daily specials on the board and realize this is a serious good eats stop. On their menu is a half dozen selection of really high quality meats. The imperial wagyu is like eating a steak right out of the hot pot. The lamb, a perfect amount of marbling. I felt spoiled eating meat this good in a hot pot. There Kobe was also delicious but definitely got outshined by their stellar imperial cuts. I also like how the sides here like vegetables are very high quality and presented beautifully. The Napa cabbage was tender and fresh. The mushroom medley looked way better than a plate of shrooms should. To top it off, the soup base here is stellar. The mala is good and spicy, without being overpowering. The regular broth is flavorful and drinkable with a spoon like a starter soup. Their dipping sauces were excellent too. To top it off, this place has service way better than an Asian establishment should. My water never went empty, our requests for sauce and napkins were filled promptly. And they were very friendly. I will definitely be back here again, especially on those cold winter days.

I came to this place ten minutes after its opening time, so they were not extremely busy. Everything came fast which would make sense because they're not cooking anything for you. I had the half and half soup and I found the hot side a bit too spicy for my taste. It was good, but I'm just not a huge spicy person. The beef looked good, I had the angus, lamb and wagyu. The angus and wagyu had a similar texture. I thought they tasted okay, and I liked the lamb's texture the most. You get charged 7.90 per person on top of your orders, so don't be surprised by it! The servers were friendly for the most part.

Great service and big portions. Love the split broth option and the high quality fresh ingredients. I've been here twice and will definitely recommend getting the wagyu and prime beef with mixed vegetables.

It's aight. Apparently they changed the menu to something like little sheep mongolian hot pot. You mark what you want and they charge soup broth per person. As you can imagine, this method adds up and food becomes way pricey. We were 3 people, bill came out to $80. No drinks, just food. The broth was good though i like it ALMOSTTTT resemble wuji's but wuji's still the best hot pot I know. They give free edamame and 2 sauce to go with ur hot pot. Ask for the green onions, garli, chili sauce too! Service is top notch, they were so busy so dont be expecting them to check on you every 15 mins! They will come if you flag them down. Sean was my waiter and he waa very attentive. Big tip for him!

I came here again with my friends because of the online buy 1 get 1 free. I came here before, and have experienced very good experience. But this time will be the last time. The requirement for the buy 1 get 1 free is: 1. share their page on facebook; 2. review with picture right away on yelp. We do not mind to do this requirement because of the better experience I had here. However, I did give them 4 stars so I told the server that I already reviewed and gave them 4 stars. The server refused, said I have to update my review with picture. Fine. After that, he read my review very carefully. We ordered 4 dishes of meat. The meat is meh. The kobe beef is like normal beef. It seems like only their imperial kobe is good (but is not included in the discount). When the bill came, they forgot to give us discount. I reminded him, he said sorry and then give us only 1 free dish. I reminded him again, and he said I had to make 2 reviews on yelp for 2 free dishes. We patiently does the requirement, but felt unpleasant. Why don't they just do unlock offer on yelp? I feel like they are buying review right now. Plus, i do not like the attitude the serve gave me when we give review, he instructed us what we should write too. Don't you know we could update the review? For the food experience: Not as good as before. The unami broth was very good, but now tasteless. I will not come back even they give free meat next time.

This place has changed quite a bit since I last came 6 months ago. Updating my review to account for this and also to give props for the awesome late night service. My family and I had been running errands til super late, I had called in earlier and they said they would take us as long as we popped in by 9:45 as they close at 10. Well after some mad speeding we arrived literally on the dot at 9:45. Can't say they were thrilled as we were the only customers there but they honored their word. The menu is now a la carte items little sheep style (instead of set menu shabu style). Spicy broth is still awesome, we got mild and I don't even remember if it had a kick. If it did it's the good kind that wears off and you don't notice it after a while. The other one is a little bland for me but I like my food flavorful. The sauces are the best - one is a thick rich sha cha sauce and the other is peanut butter based. They also have soy sauce, garlic paste, and green onions if you ask for it. Mushroom medley is shiitake, king oyster, and enoki. Tofu medley is sheet tofu, sponge tofu, and regular firm tofu. No fried tofu pods!! :( but they said that will change soon. Shrimp was fresh, pork was good, and they were great about refilling tea and the soup even though it was off work for them at that point. Only downside was making the mistake of asking our waitress if we had enough food (naturally she said no) and we ended up beyond stuffed. P.s. They can give you containers if you want to take your uncooked/cooked leftovers home - with sauce too!

Service was great and the spicy Mala broth is absolutely delicious! I think I found my new spot since Wuji's seems to be always closed when I'm craving hot Mala pot. I'd recommend this place to anyone who want spicy Mala pot.

  • Yishuan C.

Came here many times since opening, they always have good service and good Mala broths. They changed menu couple times and get better and more food & drinks variety. Meat/ seafood are always fresh and good quality. This time most soda becomes refillable. They also changed dipping sauces but we asked old style sauce and they gave us right away. Enjoy their meals every time with friends. Never disappointed.

The name Taichi might mislead you into thinking it is a Chinese/Taiwanese/Cantonese hot pot shop but dinner here is more similar to typical Japanese Shabu Shabu. You won't be dumping a million things in random order to your hotpot. Your meal would consist of a generous bowl of vegetable, a plate of meat of your choice, and either vermicelli or rice on the side. The main thing that set them apart from other shabu shabu joint is the choice of broth. They offer a pretty decent Chinese style spicy mala broth rather than simple Japanese soya or clear broth. You will also find satay sauce instead of the standard sesame sauce. Consider this a Chinese+Japanese hybrid restaurant. Quality of the meat was good. Angus beef, lamb and pork were all fresh and tender. Other fixing such as dumplings and noodles were quite good as well. Service was a bit slow at times but enthusiastic.

Well, I was trying to get the discount earlier when I voted for this place. Now, I got time to write a real review. I think the meat quality is high at this Taiwanese hot pot place. Service is good and their happy hours after 10 PM gives really good discount. I would recommend this place to someone who likes hotpot.

Among the best spicy hot pots in the neighborhood. The meat is tender and vegetables are fresh. The waiter guy is very kind and patient. Will visit here often in the future.

The taste mala broth was actually comparable to Wuji's broth, but unique in its own way. (NOT concept wise like some illiterates misread and/or misunderstood.). Very good though! Both the mala & umami broth were tasty. To my surprise, the umami broth actually had flavor, & is perfect if you want to enjoy more flavor from your delicious meats! The mala broth is perfect for the plain vegetables, but also tastes good with any meat as well. Corn was fresh & not frozen/defrosted. I could tell because it was just bursting with sweetness. Mix the satay, alittle vinegar together.. and don't forget ask for the finely minced garlic to add to your delicious dipping sauce! I personally didn't like the plum juice, it had a slight barbecue sauce like smokey-ish after taste to it.. Strange. Should've stuck to the delicious apple soda, which consisted of 23g of sugar. The pineapple vinagar shot @ the end wasn't bad at all, it actually was quite refreshing like people said. Wish I had the mango flavor though. No problem with good service & cleanliness here. However, the broth did consist of MSG because my best friend & I were pretty oddly darn thirsty during & after dinner. But regardless, I know I'll end up coming back =)

I am a self-described cullinary connoisseur of the hot pot cuisine. Not any hot pot place can satisfy my craving... but Tai chi pot hits the spot. They opened just a couple months ago but it is a solid place that I would constantly go to when dining with friends. The menu is simple to understand while still being quite encompassing of the hot pot staples. They serve quality meat and their asahi beer is very fresh on tap. While the food is great, the service is quite spotty... I've had a good experience and also downright poor quality service, the different quality of service was like night and day... so it's a gamble on the service you get... I've written off the bad day as a off day for the restaurant since they are still new and building their staff. But if the restaurants's owner is reading this, please have your Sunday evening staff teach your Saturday evening staff what service is like. Regardless, the food is spot on! And their menu has some room to grow with a couple more choices/sauces which is fairly exciting. Recommended!! Tip: do not overcook the meat... People like to cook the meat until the meat is tough and less flavorful... Dip it in for 5sec or so and shove that in your mouth. I will accept any thank you's from your stomach.

Meat was super fresh. The beef tendons were the best I've ever had at a hot pot restaurant. I could eat that with noodles and call it a day. The fruit vinegar at the end was the perfect touch to ending a meal! 4 stars and they can expect me back here :) Tip - it gets super crowded after 7:30pm. The seating arrangement is a little odd, given that it doesn't really optimizes the use of space. So.. come early! Tip 2 - They have large screens for catching games Tip 3 - It's still a combo menu when you come for lunch. At dinner you order a la carte and share like a real Chinese family would lol

Taichi Pot has very high quality meats and the broth used to cook the meats are made from healthy natural ingredients. I usually feel sick when I go to other hot pot places, probably because of the MSG, but no such problems at Taichi Pot. The broth is perfectly balanced as advertised. I would recommend getting the Taichi broth (half spicy half non-spicy) to enjoy the whole experience. Nothing to complain about the service and the location has a large number of tables to seat a large crowd during dinner time. We came here on a weekday evening and were immediately seated. The restaurant is very well ventilated so the smell doesnt get on you after your meal. We really enjoyed the SRF Kobe and the Tofu medley. We also got lamb and regular and lean Kobe and they are all very tender and fresh.

This is my first time here at this small hotspot restaurant. We ordered half umami and half spicy broth, Kobe beef and lamb for the meat, and some veggies. The quality and quantity are both satisfying. The biggest pros compared with little Mongolia sheep hotspot is that you don't have to wait!!! Definitely we'll come back : )

Definitely great Taiwanese hot pot place! We ordered the half & half pot, with Fresh and tender Kobe beef, vegetables collections, tofu collections, udon, pork intestines. And all of these are really good. The service is also wonderful. They help you add the soup before you ask. We definitely recommend this place to all hot pot lovers!

I just had dinner at Tai Chi hot pot and it was a great experience. The meat the quality here is much better than many other hot pot place in the area. I really liked the wagu beef and the pork. The half and half is a must order. I will be back here again.

  • Tash I.

I came here for dinner. We got the Kobe beef, enoki mushrooms, corn, egg dumplings, and cabbage with the half and half broth (one side spicy, one side miso). I was just OK with my meal. I wasn't a huge fan of the broth...thought it could have been more flavorful. Overall I was satisfied with my meal and the service but probably won't be back.

Pros- Fresh ingredients Attentive staff Good soup base Clean restaurant Cons- Slightly more expensive than other hotpot places likely because of their a la carte ordering style (e.g. You have to order all vegetables separately).

Came here on Thursday, the same night Warriors is at game 4 with Cavaliers. This is one of the best way to enjoy the game is while dining at Taichi hotpot. Large TV, large slices of meat and fresh veggies. The dishes are a la carte and you will enjoy the amazing soup base. On top of all, friendly servers. Definitely will come back again!!

Tai Chi Pot is the very best hot pot around. The tendon balls are amazing, the beef is fresh and tasty, and the broth is spicy and pure. Lots of inventive ingredients like quail eggs. The food is served quickly so you can cook right away. An awesome experience from start to finish, and washed down with a Taiwan Gold Medal Beer and Hot Sake!

Came back again in the same month!! I have been craving for spicy hot pot since last time I came here. Their meat is definitely a MUST order on the menu. I tried more varieties of meats this time. Imperial beef is still my favorite. American wagyu beef is also good! If you are not a beef lover, definitely try their kurobuta pork and Australian lamb! Yum yum yum :))) Just noticed that they have new lunch hour now. Will absolutely come back to try their combo lunch set. - One thing to improve: no AYCE options or combo for dinner time. Portion is rather small for their price.

I found this restaurant by accident but surprisingly the food was really good and the place was pleasant. It is a Chinese shabu shabu place. I came here with my family. My children loved the meat and veggie cooked in front of them. My husband also liked the place because the quality of meat was good and he could watch the sports games on big TV screen. I loved the fact that the two types of hot pot flavors were cooking side by side. I enjoyed spicy flavor and my children enjoyed clear broth flavor. The place has several dipping sauces but I liked the sesame one best. The edamame was served for free all the time and they gave us passion dessert drinks at the end for free. The drink was really good. Lastly the restroom is clean and well designed. Everything is automated. I highly recommend this place to people, specially for family night out events.

The hotpot here is great!!! The Meat was fresh and broth had lots of taste. I especially liked the exotic meats: beef intestine, stomach, and tendons. The atmosphere was wonderful too. The vapor hoods kept the air from getting too stuffy like in other hotpot places. Additionally, the service was very fast and friendly. I am definitely adding this to my list of favorite hot pot restaurants.

This is my 5th time being here, which is the best Taiwanese style hot pot I ever eat in this Bay Area. They got the most amazing selected meats and stinking tofu. The service was kind and delicate. Highly recommended such as friend gather or place to chill and having fun:)

  • Kim N.

Good hotpot place. Even though it's been getting cooler, all the cooking and body heat makes this a humid hotter place. Since we ate late, people started leaving and it cooled down. Not sure what it's like with a full house. Got the kobe beef, pork, lamb, beef tendon, cuttlefish balls, noodles..the entree comes with napa cabbage, enoki/shiitake mushrooms, vemrmicelli, bok choy, and a couple of dumplings. Had a half and half Mala and regular broth. Hot sauce, garlic and onions come as condiments as does a satay like sauce and pickled leeks. Everything was fairly tasty. The staff are friendly unlike the majority of Chinese places in the area. Solid cuisine and friendly service definitely warrants a return trip. Though ill wait for it to get colder!

  • Zhuoyao Z.

This is my first time here. My friend and I arrived around 7pm and glad to find there's not a long line. We ordered a special fish broth which I never see in other places and it tastes good:) Cobby beef and Angus Beef are both good and I also love their tofu plate. In a word, it is a nice place to hangout with friends on Friday night!

    (5)
  • Michelle Y.

Had great expectations for this place but they fall short. First of all, it was pretty pricey. For the quality of the meat that they have, it did not justify for the price. Secondly the soup was Powderly. Taste like those instant soup that you will get from instant noodle package. Lastly, they were dishonest! When we left we noticed that on the window outside there was actually a promotion going on you. The third item is only .95 cents if you order two side items. Had to go back in to ask for that promotion. The waiter just said she forgot and just gave me couple dollars back. Dude, keep it consistent! Shouldn't have to ask for the promotion! And the $4 that she refunded wasn't even correct! She just gave me something so that I will leave. What a rip off!

Get the imperial Kobe beef! The service is quick and attentive. I always get the half and half hot pot and the sauces for the meat is good.

I just finished an epic meal. $70 with tip for 2 people is worth it. Service is amazingly awesome. The waitress does not get irritated when you ask 20k questions in English! Definitely will come back. This is paleo friendly right? Get the tendon. They say you can't drink the Mala broth, but Fck it. Do it anyways. You won't regret it

Decided to give this place a second try since I noticed that the recent views were pretty good. I'm really glad that they improved service SIGNIFICANTLY. Food came quickly and our broths and waters were refilled frequently without too much asking. Food is really authentic and reminds me of Taiwan. Definitely will be coming back! :)

Excellent. I like the beef and lamb there. I feel it is better than the lamb in the little sheep hot pot. The spicy pot is really good with Taiwan spicy. Worth to have the friends to come again.

I can believe people wanna compare their broth with WUJI's... ummm, honestly this place needs to improve on their soup base cause is nothing special. Another WUJI wannabe, DONT COME HERE, not worth it. Best hotspot places in the South Bay is still wu ji's but boiling point in warm springs is also amazing so skip this place and visit the ones I've mentioned and you will thank me later.

After wanting to try this place for a while... I got to say I am somewhat disappointed from my visit to Taichi Pot. First of all, they leave the door open all the time because apparently they do not have good enough ventilation to handle all the hot pots. So if you're sitting closer to the entrance, you'll most likely be cold so bring a sweater or jacket (which will probably end up smelling)! So as for the food... I'd like to say I'm a pretty open minded person when it comes to food. So I was pretty open to the new flavors going in to try Taiwanese (?) hot pot for the first time. However, the flavors just didn't work for me... We got the beef and lamb with the mala and umami broth. The meal came with typical assorted veggies and meat. The food was by no means bad.... it's just compared to other places like onepot shabu, or little sheep, it wasn't as flavorful and enjoyable. The meat and veggies seemed fresh enough and the service was pretty good. The overall quantity and quality of the food seemed to be maybe ~10% above what it should be in my opinion... Maybe it may be because I'm not used to the flavors but it did not work for me!

    (3)
  • Tina T.

Excellent service! Mala broth is on the sweeter side however you can ask for more spice! The umami broth was quite flavorful! The food quality ie. Pork, beef, vegetables and etc are very fresh and high quality. Hubby and I both agreed we feel clean after eating. It's a Great hot pot place we will definitely come back! The sauces were hit or miss but complimented the flavor well.

Disclaimer: There's a buy one get one free promo on Mon, Weds, and Thurs if you post a 3 star or better review on Yelp. However, I would've given this place 4 stars even without the bribe. ;) It was our first time here for a friend's birthday and we had a great time. The staff was very attentive by filling up the broth and drinks regularly. We got both the umami and Mala broth. The Mala looks super oily but doesn't taste that way. It's also not super spicy, so easy to eat for the whole meal. I do prefer Wuji Malas broth over this one though. Overall quality of meat was great. Definitely recommend the lamb and Imperial Wagyu Kobe beef. I love that there were so many options to customize our meal with. Everything looked and tasted fresh. We ordered ear jelly mushrooms, enoki mushrooms, Napa cabbage, lotus, tripe, tendon, quail eggs, and hot pot noodles. I'm not usually a fan of tripe, but I liked it here. Loved the tendon. I wish the ear mushrooms were sliced and not whole, however. I'm obsessed with quail eggs but I felt like they didn't lick up the flavor of the broths well. The dipping sauces are good but you honesty don't even need them. The flavor of the broth carries over really well in almost all if the ingredients. We'll definitely be coming back!

This place is ok but nothing special. I was actually surprised at how little vegetables they gave for my friend and I. They gave us a medium-size-ish bowl which at other places is for one person but for here, we had to share. The meat and broth itself is good but nothing amazing. The house dipping sauce is good though and that made everything pretty tasty. Overall this place is ok but I wouldn't crave to go here or wait longer than 15 min.

Quality shabu shabu+friendly service+great ambience = 5 star!!!!!!! Located in a Safeway plaza where popular restaurants are such as sumiya and Stan's donut shop. As a big fan of shabu shabu & Chinese hot pot I had to give taichi pot a try. The moment I heard servers greet in Chinese I realized service has to be great since no other Chinese restaurants do that. We ordered Kobe beef and kurobuta pork. Not a fan of lamb so no comment on that. I have to say the meat quality is same as ones we get from Japanese supermarket such as Marukai and mitsuwa. Great marbling with sweet and beefy taste for Kobe beef, and kurobuta is very tender and I guessed they used non pork belly which is a plus to me. Large portion for both plates plus huge vegetable plate filled two of us. Speaking of broths, both dashi had an amazing taste but do not overpower meat and other ingredients. I am a Japanese and I have to say that umami broth was great! It is indeed konbu and katsuobushi based with a hint of sweetness from vegetables. It makes our meat tasted soooooooo great and the broth tasted amazing after cooking meat and vegetables. We also enjoyed mala spicy broth that is a little too spicy for us. Don't get me wrong as this is a "OMG this is spicy!!!! But I love it!!!" feeling after all. I wish they had ponzu sauce but hey it's a Taiwanese restaurant after all. Both shacha sauce and mala dipping sauce tasted great though. Our server also told us they can always adjust spiciness from mild to extremely spicy on the side note. Our meal finished with some delicious fruit vinegar and we felt refreshed after drinking it. We figured it'd be great to take the broth to go so we can cook more meat and ramen in both broths. Our server asked us "would you like me to top off your broths?" Where can you expect such a nice service from any Chinese restaurant?! Ignore some bad reviews and find out how great taichi pot is by visiting here yourself. This would be my "must go"restaurant from now on, and can't wait til winter to have quality hot pot like taichi!!

Great Mistake! We thought we were walking into the Japanese Grill 2 doors down. We were dumb wrong. It took a while to get seated, and even after we did, it took a couple minutes before we realized our blunder. Alas, we decided interpret it an omen, and our stupidity was greatly rewarded with a smorgasbord of delicious flavors and textures. From the Imperial Wagu Beef and Australian lamb; to the tendon, Napa cabbage, blood rice cakes, scallops, quail eggs, various tofus (the list goes on and on) there is no shortage of interesting options. Amazing fresh broth in Yin-Yang pot at center is a nice touch too. You best believe I will be back! Update: Came back, and it just gets better! The staff is just so courteous and friendly, and the food is pure boiled fun! (It may seem spendy, but only because our appetites are epic like that.)

I love this place for mala hot pot. Everything is super fresh and no MSG is used in the sauces or broth. Very spicy and so flavorful. Nothing like this in LA comes close, especially the MSG part if you know what I mean. They even have huge flat screens here to watch the game. Awesome service and super friendly staff. Highly recommended if you enjoy mala hot pot

I'll be fair. I came here when I was craving for Wujis. It's not comparable at all. Items are Ala Carte so comparable to Little Sheep in terms of ordering and eating arrangement since you share with a group of people. The mala broth is nothing like Wujis. (I frkn loveeeeee Wujis!) It's just decent. I would go to Little sheep before I go here. I'll come here again though, just not my first choice for hot pot. I ordered tendon and tripe and it was disappointing. The tendon and tripe wasn't marinated like Wujis and it was super chewy. I think Wujis cook their tendon and tripe for a really long time in their broth, so it's nice and soft. However, Taichi has it's pros. The meat is definitely better than Wujis; better quality and more fresh. The pork is delicious! I like the fact that they have a variety of veggies too, as compared to Wujis. That is all. Almost forgot, Wujis dipping sauce beats Taichi too.

Alright so the only reason I'm giving a 2 is because the service was awesome and super friendly and ambience of the restaurant was really comfortable. I'm not sure if it's an acquired taste or not by this was my first exposure to hot pot and I absolutely hated it. There was not one meal that went down better than another. I ordered 2 plates of Kobe Beef as well as chicken, and didn't find anything appetizing about either. I guess it's just not meant to be :(

A spacious dining place with authentic Taiwanese style hot pot soup base! The tofu is absolutely tasty and texture is perfect! Must order the mala tofu!! We came as early as 6:00pm and with no waiting. We will definitely come back!

Located in a somewhat off the path plaza you probably wouldn't really notice this place unless you were looking for it. It's big and high ceiling inside which helps with the steam from the hot pots since they don't have the low hanging vents (which can be a good thing since it gives it a more airy feel). There are 4 types of broths to choose from and 3 types of meat. You can get up to two types of broth. Two of us shared a large of the beef ($21)- there is a $7.50 sharing fee but if you order some of the add ons they won't charge you. I must say the quality of this place is very good. The meat was very nice (waiter told us it was actually fresh enough to eat raw if you really wanted to) and both broths were very tasty. You can actually drink it straight and it's really good. We ordered some noodles and ate it at the end with the broth- super yum. You can tell the broth is very clean cuz you don't have that msg weird after taste. They also give you a passion fruit flavored vinegar drink at the end to help you wash everything down. Recommended!

This is now the best hotpot in South Bay. We came the 2nd day this place was open, and already came back a few days later. BTW, all the low ratings here were due to service the weekend this place opened. Give me a break people, have YOU ever opened a restaurant?? They've turned it around since then. Broth: Their Mala broth is good and rich, and the umami broth (sort of seaweed flavored) is actually pretty well flavored for a clear broth. Meats: WAY better quality than Little Sheep or One Pot. Actually might have overtaken Shabuway Santa Clara, which was previously the best hot pot meat I'd had in the bay area. Instead of a big selection, they have three meats (american kobe, kurabota pork, and lamb), so they can focus on doing them perfectly. In our two visits, the beef and pork were PERFECT. Comes-with-the-meat-platter: Awesome selection. Standard veggies/mushroom assortment, plus egg dumplings, fish dumplings, fish balls, and some jelly thing (yum). Generous. Sides: Awesome fishballs and fish dumplings. Chinese soup noodles are perfect as well. Sauces: Satay and this delicious vinegar sauce that goes great with the mala. Service: This place is now incredible. They obviously read the yelp reviews from the first weekend and way over-compensated in a good way for the customer :) Our glass was never empty, they checked on us constantly, asked frequently if we wanted more broth, cleared plates instantly, and everyone is SO NICE. Bottom line, this is now my #1 hotspot place.

So many hot pots to choose from and decided to give this place a try and I'm glad we did. Right when we got here an inviting sign at the front door said buy one meat get another free. A check in on yelp already gives me a free sake and more free stuff so who wouldn't be happy. The Kobe beef was tasty and the service was very helpful, attentive and friendly. And the music they play is great. Our first time here and definitely not the last.

High quality meat; not the low grade below USDA quality you find at lower end restaurants, 2 broths to choose from. Can get expensive. They charge ~11.50/person for the broth. They come by and keep refilling. Beer/Sake. $30/person w alcohol, $20 without.

It feels like you're in Taiwan eating Mala Guo (Hot pot) in this restaurant. You can choose either Mala (spicy), Umami broth or a mixture of both (Taichi Pot). The nice part about the Mala is you can also specify how spicy you want the Mala to be and they can also dilute the spiciness with tea. Overall, meats were VERY fresh (better quality than One Pot or Little Sheep too!) and they give you a lot of variety of vegetables. What stood out was the service as the waitresses were super attentive and gave us extra bowls for sipping soup and soy sauce when we asked. There are two different types of dipping sauces that they give you (one is satay and another one is a citrus type sauce with green onions inside). Overall, 4 stars for overall food but 5 stars for service! Come check it out if you miss Taiwanese Mala Hot Pot. They even have Apple Sidra soda here!

WOW! Finally a true authentic Taiwanese spicy hot pot in the Bay Area. It's truly as good as it gets! The pork is MIND-BLOWING and highly recommended. The Angus beef and Kobe beef are both very tender and tasty as well. The veggies, mushrooms, dumplings, fish balls and fish cakes are all so fresh and go really well with both sides of spicy and non-spicy soup. The broth for both spicy and non-spicy are amazing, and together they make the perfect combo. The portions are very generous, and you also get to choose rice or udon noodles to go with the food and soup. As for drinks, the Taiwan Golden Medal Beer is my all-time favorite and goes so well with the spicy hot pot. Their Asahi draft beer is equally amazing because it's imported directly from Japan and tastes very smooth. After the meal we were each served a fruity vinegar shot that tasted so good, and it's such a refreshing treat to the palate after the tasty meal. The service was excellent, and the servers were very friendly and attentive. I will sure come to Taichi Pot again when I'm in town next time. I LOVE this place and wish I lived closer! Do yourself a favor and give Taichi Pot a try, you won't regret it! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!

been on my list to try as its comparable to wujis. oh you know..i always like to try new things...this one was the ultimate worst experience i had in my dining history! arrived at tai chi with a group of 4 at i would say 630PM? all the seats were actually filled up, so i put our name on the list. we were first on the list, so it wouldn't be too bad of a wait. as i was waiting, i noticed...alot of people didn't have their food. i really didn't think much of it. so we were finally seated at like 645..thats not too shabby.. first thing our server said was they just got a complaint about not being able to serve raw meats on the table? and that everything must be cooked in the kitchen and brought out to us. i said that was weird and is that a new thing? alotta of other hotpot places serve raw meat that doesn't make sense...she said its going to be a new thing and other places will prob be like that too? iono still doesn't sound right to me. anyway, i was iffy but we were already there so might as well right? ok, so another girl took our order and i made it pretty simple. however, she kept on asking over and over confirming my order... (i kiddingly joked oh boy...i bet one of our orders are gonna get messed up) so we ordered 4 orders. my bf and i were going to to have the same order a med kobe beef extra spicy, but i added udon to mine. the other 2 we were with wanted the same order as ours but one wanted the american beef. order was placed at 653 PM. it was 725 and i saw no sign of my food. i then waived down a server and asked about our food. she said its on its way. i was already a little irritated...but since she said its on its way...its better be! i kept making eye contact with her every time she walked by and looked really unhappy. 5 mins later...she came by and said sorry for the wait and offered us all free sodas. thats a plus i guess... 735 our food is here! well mine and the bfs pot came out first. no udon in either. aiyaaa at this point i was too bz to complain. il just tell them to take off the udon from our bill. hmm...the other 2 was still waiting and i jokingly said we'll prob finish our food before yours come out at this rate...i kept seeing pots get served to other tables and they still didn't get theirs...so finally 20 mins later 753 an hour from our initial order time i asked the server where our other 2 orders were. she ran to check and they all looked so lost and confused and kept going back and forth. at this rate, i already knew they screwed up. she came back and said so so so sorry they messed up, and will make a pot immediately. REALLY? i am NOT going to wait prob another hour for a pot they are going to prep!! we just canceled the order period. we just ended up sharing our pots. ok, now on to the food. the broth was cool..it reminded me of wujis. the meat was so dry by the time they cooked for us. i like to cook mine and have it med rare. this new thing having them cook the meat for you seems to not be working out as it is making all of us wait and wait for our food. on top of that! things are being over cooked like my meat! bad bad bad customer service with w/e food. never ever everrrrr coming back!

We came here on a Thurs evening. It's not too crowded but still pretty busy. Service was good - the servers were patience with us; took their time to answer our questions; and didn't mind our kids who were pretty loud throughout the dinner. Food was decent and good quality - we ordered Kobe beef, lamb, pork, seafood platter, tofu platter, and veggie. We finished everything and left with satisfaction.

Come here on weekdays to enjoy buy 1 get 1 free meat. They have good traditional Taiwanese spicy hot pot with good quality meat and a variety of vegetables to choose from. The restaurant is spacious with room to park our stroller, which is good for parents with babies.

Bugs were flying everywhere. People were swatting bugs while they ate. It was a sign of absolute dirty. It was about that time I realized I can make this stuff with fixings from the korean grocery store for like 1/4 price and 1/16 the bugs. Also the Wait staff just stands hovering over your table staring into your soul while you eat.

My wife and I stopped by after work for dinner. We ordered 3 dishes of meat, some mushroom dishes. We noticed the dishes were quite small; hence we ordered an additional dish of meat. But the fourth meat dish didn't look very fresh; hence, we asked the server to change it. He was quite reluctant to do so until we insisted a couple of times, he finally did it. Anyway, the new dish was similar not as fresh as the first 3 meat dishes. The food was ok, not impressive to crave for it again. Not sure if we would come back again.

Place was very clean and huge, parking wasn't bad due to a huge parking lot. Staff is very friendly and attentive. Now, I had a bit of high expectations to this place due to all the great reviews I read on here. The mala spicy broth did reminded me of Wujis Mala hot pot style but less flavorful. I love that they had a great amount of meats and veggies to chose from. They even have spam and quail eggs on there! First time I has ever seen it at a hot pot place but as great as the selections were, I wish the broth had more flavor to it. At the end of our meal, they has give us a shot of fruit vinegar ? As crazy as it sounds, it was a great refreshing drink. Definitely should try it. Now, the big question: Will I return? Uhm, it's definitely not a place I would get out of my way for but if I'm in the area and I'm craving hot pot, I'll be back. (:

I went on a Friday night with a friend of mine. We got there around 7pm and didn't have to wait at all. :D I guess we got lucky because the place became packed soon after. :( The food was alright. We got the premium lamb shoulder cut (?). It wasn't very tender or fresh as I had hoped it would be. I've had the same at Little Sheep, but it was a lot more tender. The mala pot didn't do much for me. (I love spicy food though) In fact both broths were on the salty side. The mala tofu side was also pretty mediocre. It's basically plain tofu that's been thoroughly salted haha. If you go there I'd recommend getting the fish tofu. It's softer than the mala tofu and not too salty at all. Though I was pretty happy to see that they had tripe, the other sides like beef balls are pretty mediocre. Other than that the service was good. The waiters were nice and attentive. When we asked for additional sauce they were quick to provide us a generous amount to use. Overall though, It was mediocre. :(

We got a half and half pot of Spicy Mala and Umami. My spicy mala was really good, but REALLY oily. Portions are awesome here and their veggies are super fresh. The price came out to about $25 a person, which is normal for hot pot. 4/5 stars The service here is SLOW. Painfully slow.... There were open tables and we weren't seated for a good 15 minutes. I understand this place is new, but it was to the point where I was ready to go. The servers were not good about the menu either. It took us 10 minutes to flag someone down to get the check and another 15-20 to get our card back. We sat there packed up and ready to go (with a baby) and someone had to stop by and ask us what we needed. Did you forget you had our card and we needed to sign it?! Overall, the food was really good but I just hope that they are better about service as they go.

Woohoo!! Taichi Pot is really as good as it gets!! I visited this new hot pot place during their soft opening event. The staffs are super friendly and very attenative for what we needed at our table. I have to say their Mala pot is amazingly good and make me salivate just to think about it. This is an authentic Taiwanese Mala pot and they have a decent portion of the sides such as mushrooms, fish balls and vegetables including a choice of rice or noodles. As a girl - the portion is more than enough with a decent price of $25. You will not get to eat so much with freshly prepared food at other hot pot places. They also got Asahi draft and Taiwan Gold Medal beers!!!!!!!! This place is clean and all the dishes are very neatly prepared. Don't miss it if you ever want a great hot pot place to hangout at!! Two thumbs up!!

First time here! In my opinion, it was pretty good. It's similar to Little Mongolian Hot Pot in terms of the Ala-carte items- you check what you want (ie. fish cake, noodles, fish balls, etc.) I LOVED the mala hot broth- very authentic Taiwanese hot pot. I got the half and half but the mala hot half was definitely the highlight. The service was alright, came twice to refill our broth and our drinks. The beef is very high quality, delicious with the right amount of fat. We got the imperial and Kobe. Unlike what other reviews said, the place was very clean and the wait staff was attentive enough and did not hover. Pros- -mala hot pot!! -pork intestines were fantastic (marinated to perfection) -super high quality beef -everything is fresh -the fruit vinegar they give you at the end of the meal to cleanse your palate (yum), a nice touch Cons -a little pricey ($75 with tip for 3 people) I would definitely come back again whenever I get a crave for spicy food and hot pot! I personally like this place more than Little Mongolian Hot Pot because the mala hot pot (taiwanese) is more preferable to my own taste, and there's no ridiculous line every day.

We tried the half half broth with a variety of veggies and tofu. The quality of the veggies was good and I was happy they pre-separated the enoki mushrooms so you could easily pop it in the hot pot. I was not a huge fan of the two broth options. I thought the Mala broth was a bit over seasoned and spicy and the umami was a bit plain.

Our experience with Taichi pot was absolutely awesome, and I guess you just can't please everyone after all. We had delicious hot pot with excellent service and it is still almost as great as it was before. After our server explained what happened to them, we still wanted to try what they have to offer before back to original in around a month. The minced pork rice tastes soooooo delicious and portion is enough to fill me up! We also ordered some mini pots that are not exactly like ones we had before but still the same great taste. The prices are lower though still enough for each of us. I'm happy they found an alternative to satisfy customers before getting back to big hot pot. Would I recommend this restaurant? The answer is yes and you'd expect to have an even better experience after they are done with inspection in a month. Oh yah and they gave us a 10% off coupon that we can use later which is a plus!! We will revisit to collect more coupons soon or later.

Definitely not the best hot pot place i've been to, but their portion sizes here are pretty generous. My friend and I ordered the half and half broth. I would say that their spicy broth is really good, the umami one was nothing special. They offer a good amount of things to put inside your hot pot. Overall it was a pretty average tasting hot pot place. However they did give me a free beer for checking into yelp, and free beer is always a plus!

Very good service. A little difficult for our waiter to understand English but they were very investigative and patient with what we were asking them. Came here with my girl friend. We ordered a large American beef plate and one side of vegetables. Filled us up (: The house sauces were delicious. Would definitely come here again.

Came to Taichi hotpot this past Friday to give it a try. My friend recommended it to me as an alternative to Wuji. We got the mala and umami broths. The umami broth was too plain for me especially with the mala broth right next to it. Now down to the details. The tripe and tendon are not as good as Wuji's. The fish ball with roe was definitely not good. Sliced lamb was good. Taichi gives you more options than Wuji such as seafood and more veggies. However, I still prefer Wuji.

Quality hot pot + great service + elegant ambience = 5 stars. This is by far the most authentic Taiwanese MALA hot pot I ever had in the states. I've worked in Taiwan for couple years and always had to visit spicy hot pot restaurants regardless, To begin with hot pot, they offer 2 kinds of broth and keep in mind that both are extremely savory and took hours to make. If you were looking for fancy 5-8 full of MSG broths with cheap quality meat then Taichi is not for you. The MALA is as authentic as it gets, and extra spicy can really get you sweat a lot. (Good news they offer great beer such as Asahi and Sapporo.) The UMAMI was amazingly savory and tasted so sweet after cooking some meat and vegetables. I'm allergic to MSG and didn't feel numbness on my shoulder after drinking broths. My suggestion is don't order too many fish balls but meat & vegetables to avoid possibly hidden MSG as they noted. I was impressed with the selections of ingredient, and that tells me how much effort the owner put. They offer 2 kinds of American Kobe Wagyu and they both tasted great. I prefer SRF Kobe since it's got stronger beef taste and I'm always with medium rare when it comes to beef. Nothing in meat category is cheap quality so great! Stewed kobe tendon is exclusive and only available at Taichi, and stewed pork intestine & beef tripe are also excellent. I recommend fish ball with eggs, tempura, quail eggs, and any seafood selection! I'm glad that they actually listened to customers' yelp opinions and came up with updated menu. Chinese hot pot was supposed to have many ingredients compared to Shabu Shabu after all. Service is a huge plus as we never had to ask for broths, water, or even napkins. The after meal fruit vinegar was absolutely refreshing after getting full, and just that I wish they could offer to sell it on the menu! Downsides? Honestly, if my review were written before they switched from entrée style then it'd be 4 star. I was told they'd be offering entrée style for upcoming lunch hour after new year. That'd be exciting because my company is only miles away! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!

TAICHI IS NOT COMPARABLE TO WUJI!! I can understand why people would think so because of spices used for the broth but Taichi reminds me of Little Sheep. Both their spicy broths have the same flavors and the whole atmosphere of the restaurant is similar. The concept of their menus are nearly identical, except little sheep has more options. I really like the hot pot here but would not go out of the way for it. Wuji will always be #1

Great hot pot! Especially the spicy pot. Besides beef, also strongly recommend their beef tendon.

I'm going to be real honest here... If you can help it, go somewhere else. Wuji's was closed & my friend was seriously hankering for mala hot pot so we found ourselves here on a chilly Wednesday evening (thanks to a quick search on Yelp). I have never had Wuji's & the last time I had mala hot pot was a couple of years back at Spices 3... so I was pretty excited to try this place. It smelled good inside. FOOD: We opted for half & half so we could try both broths. The umami broth was severely underwhelming. Tasted like it came out of a can; like they didn't do anything to it. The mala broth was better, but it didn't leave a lasting impression. The dipping sauces weren't bad. Compared to the broths, it's probably what saved the meal. Most of the items we ordered were hard to mess up. After all, you are cooking it yourself. I didn't like the fishball w/ roe here. The inside was all mushy (& no, I didn't overcook it). For the meats, we ordered kobe & lamb. Although they gave a decent amount, it lacked quality. It wasn't nearly as tender or tasty as other restaurants. Whomp whomp. SERVICE: Good! Attentive. We had some questions about the menu and the waitress was very patient with us. She also refilled our water & tea often. As it got busier, we had to flag her down but it wasn't a big deal. Our order didn't take long. I also liked that they leave everything on a tray stand so your table doesn't get crowded. DECOR/AMBIANCE: Spacious, clean, minimal. It was comfortable. LIKES: Check in on Yelp Tuesdays-Thursdays for a free large hot sake or Sapporo draft. Free bowl of edamame to start the meal. Free small sweet & tart drink at the end to cleanse the palate. Can you tell I like free things? :) Waitress was super nice. DISLIKES: The broths were lacking in flavor & the sauces were nothing special. For the price we paid, we could have went next door to Sumiya where the food does not disappoint & I would have left much more satisfied. I am always skeptical of restaurants with high ratings on Yelp... but to each their own. It's unlikely I will return.

I like the spicy soup base, it has a nice hint of spicy and filled with nice aroma from the spice they use in the soup base.

Late post....Tried out this spot for the first time a few weeks ago and was blown away by how savory the broth was (both the spicy and non-spicy). I usually don't sip on the broth but I couldn't resist at this place! The Kurabuta pork and American Kobe was very tender. The service was great as well! Step aside Little Sheep, this is my new hotspot!

This place is wonderful. The food is so delicious. Service is also great. Ppl are really friendly.

  • Jenny Z.

Definitely not worth. For the same price, you can go to Little Sheep Mongolian for better meat, better vegetables, better selection, and better service. And for the same taste, you can go to Shabuway for a much cheaper price. Also, the pot isn't a fixed price! They charge per person for the same sized pot....so if you have 4 people sharing one pot...it costs 15 dollars...What?? The service was also mediocre. There were 2 open tables when we arrived, but the waiters ignored us for a good 10 minutes before finally seating us. Ridiculous. At least the sauces were free??

Came here because of the sea of positive yelp reviews; ultimately, was disappointed. Don't think I'll be returning. PROS: Meat was pretty good quality and there were a ton of varieties for the side dishes to add to your hot pots--vegetables, seafood, tofus, noodles, etc. They have yam noodles that they claim are zero calories LOL. Not sure if that's actually the case but they were good nonetheless. CONS: I love spicy but the mala broth was tooo spicy and not in a good way. The umami broth was super bland in comparison. The dipping sauce for the meats were ehh. I personally don't really like sha cha jiang (which is basically really oily BBQ sauce) and the other vinegar and sesame oil concoction didn't impress me either. Oh and for dessert they gave us this passion fruit juice thingy that comes in a shot glass. I liked it until they told us there was vinegar in it...VINEGAR. EW. Apparently it cuts grease? Still. No Please.

I went here the other day and their Hot Pot Noodles were delicious! Unlike Wuji Mala's, their tofu were not that salty :) BUT the soup didn't really taste like Wuji's.

Had the hot pot here... not bad! Service was fast, price was reasonable. Everything was delicious and they give you a drink after eating as well! I wish they had japanese miso broth that wasn't spicy tho

The hot pot with the pork was good. The cut was thick, and the portion was adequate. The spicy broth was a little oily.

  • Sue P.

This cannot be said as authentic Chinese hotpot, but if you want to try how it looks like, at least it will show you about that. Price is pretty expensive compare to quality.

We've been here a few times, and they have been consistent with their efficient service, flavorful broth, and generous portions of quality ingredients.

The second time in this restaurant. I love the spicy hotpot and the imperial beef, and the service is fast and good. Lastly, the passion fruit vinegar coming after the meal is definitely recommended.

They say "Winter is coming" but you would never guess it with this heat wave and drought in mid-October. Well, that didn't stop this girl from dancing all day in 80+ degree weather before racing over for some hot pot goodness. Yeah, yeah, I don't get me either sometimes - I guess it's like when you crave ice cream while it's snowing outside. No? I guess that's just me then.... Anyway, I was immediately pleasantly surprised by how spotless and clean this Taiwanese mala styled hot pot place is. Not to say most hot pot or shabu joints are dirty, but they're often stuffy with the scent of boiled meats and oil/fat. It was also strange to see how minimal the table setting was. Normally half of it would be covered in condiments or dips with barely any room left for the trays or platters of meat to come. I would later find out it is because their broths - which are simmered for 6 hours - are so flavorful that you really don't need any additional seasoning or flavor; everything is good to go once it is cooked. Even then, I would still sometimes lightly dab my food with the traditional shacha sauce. We ordered 2 broths, the mala schezwan spicey one along with the umame. I'm a complete wimp when it comes to spices, but I really appreciated the mild, numbing burn that delivered a slight after kick to my meal. The umame was very savory and added the right amount of saltiness to make you salivate over each perfectly cooked piece of meat. Which brings me to another pro: the meat quality here is one of the better ones I've come across. I'm not going to delude myself into thinking the "American Kobe" is actually wagyu, but I liked that the cuts were fresh and slightly more lean than what I've encountered at other places such as One Pot. I felt like I ate a very clean meal as opposed to a giant bowl of sodium filled grease like I do at other shabu joints. Now if only they offered fish stomachs. Yum!

We came here on a Monday night. It was not busy and the service was very accommodating. We enjoyed our dinner a lot. The meet is delicious, vegetable is fresh and soup tastes great with the produce. Definitely one of the best hot pot place in the bay. Will be coming back.

BEST HOT POT EVER!!!!!! I come here at least 3-4 times a month! Service is fantastic and the food is great! The mala broth is not super spicy like other places and it is perfect! The other broth- clear broth is very tasty as well. I highly recommend this place for all those who love hot pot! Oh and did I mention- I love how they prep the veggies! Super clean and fresh. Hehe

Ordered beef, cutterfish and octopus. All are good. Enjoyed the plum juice and herbal tea. Fish ball is fun to watch when being pressed into the broth.

Food was quite delicious. The meat tasted fresh and didn't come out extremely frozen. The veggies that came with the entrees were quite an assortment. We ordered 3 entrees: reg beef, kobe beef and pork. The satay sauce and the mix were excellent as well. Service was great. Easy parking. $60 for the 3 entrees + pig blood rice cake before tip.

I have been to the place two times now. Once at soft opening and once just last week and I surely can see they are doing thing to improve! Despite the quality of the meat and soup still remain superior, here's what I learned that I didn't used to know: 1) DRINK THE SOUP! Yes, not the spicy mala part, but the clear soup base is packed with flavor when just drinking it! (of course after cooking all the stuff you should take out the floating particles still) 2) Their Asahi, imported directly from Japan is needless to explain. If you are a Asian beer drinking person, the first taste will explain all. I was told there were a period of time you can not cook your own meat, but when I visited it was back to DIY cooking again, which I still like the quality of meat so I can eat them pretty raw. Portion wise, I was well fed, didn't need to order extra, but, I could go on to 2nd plate of meat ;) I will def. go back when I have hot-pot cravings again =D

Dinner for 4 people was ~$100 and we all left hungry (menu changes detailed below). Their new menu is now 100% a-la-carte. The prices for veggies and tofu make little sense. A plate of meat is decently priced but paying $4 for a small bowl of cabbage feels like a giant rip-off when the portion is for an infant pet bunny. You'll pay ~$4 for a small bowl of each kind of vegetable. Want 10 pieces of Bok-Choy? ~$4. Cabbage? ~$4. Mushrooms are more expensive and are also served as an extremely small portion. Noodles or rice are also ~$3. It really feels like every little thing is a charge. So you want a variety of veggies? Multiply the number of veggies desired by number of people by $4. It ads up quickly for what is normally thrown at you in some kind of combo. The meat isn't anything special as others have pointed out. The spicy broth is great. Really wish the prices reflected a restaurant sitting next to a supermarket and a Taco Bell.

Nice place to visit. It is not crowded and quite. Good place for couples. They offer dual borth (鸳鸯) Shabu Shabu (涮涮锅), the light broth is served as soup, and the spicy broth is for cooking the meats and vegetables. They offer two types of beef: American Kobe Beef & Certified Angus Lean Beef. I would also recommend the vegetable mix which is a value package with two big bowls of sorted veg. At last they treat us with the home made fruit vinegar, which is for solving the greasiness. We had a good time there.

Delicious food!! Highly recommend, the American Kobe beef was delicious, particularly with the broth. It doesn't take long to cook either and best of all you enjoy it nice and fresh!

I absolutely love shabu hotpot so when this place opened up near my BF's I was super excited to try it. I ended feeling disappointed because I hyped my expectation too high and this place sadly ended up falling short. Sauce is huge to me. It's a make or break for all shabu places. If the sauce is not good. How will I enjoy my meal? No matter how much I tried, I just could not get used to their house special sauce and vinegar mixture. The meat was decent and the staff was friendly but I just couldn't enjoy my meal. Little sheep, little dipper shabu shabu, and one pot are still on the top of my list.

Came here to try a different style of hot pot. I love Japanese shabu shabu and chinese style hotpot and wondered how different Taiwanese style hot pot was like. The soup broths were alright and the sauces offered was not my taste. They give you this blk bean paste dipping and another sourish pepper sauce. I prefer ponzu and sesame/peanut sauce. I wanted hot sauce but it was difficult to flag down the servers. Once I did get their attention, they kept forgetting and helping other customers. Not until the fourth time asking, I finally got it. The place wasn't even busy either. Ehhh two stars only cause the beef and fish quality were good. Other than that, there is nothing special about the place. Will not be back. I'll stick to hot pot garden and kufuya!

Okay, so I'm an admitted novice to hotpot but I have to say that I liked it a lot! The angus beef was of very good quality, the presentation was wonderful and the staff was attentive. My daughter and I came on a Friday evening at about 6:30 and it was pretty quiet with only two or three other tables taken. Our food came quickly and before I knew it an hour had passed. We had chatted over our dinner, played with the babies at the table behind us and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves! Suddenly, I realized that every table was full but it the atmosphere was still peaceful and I could easily hear my daughter and be heard. The restaurant itself was clean and simple with good taste shown in the décor. The bathroom sported a touch of elegance. As mentioned, I am a novice to hotpot and I finally broke down and let the staff know I didn't know what I was doing :o) They were very happy to explain what I was eating, how to cook it to my taste and were constantly checking on us to ensure we had what we needed. What was very cool is that, as we had control of the cooking, every bite was hot no matter how long we talked before taking the next bite :o) All in all, it was great food and a relaxing evening. I highly recommend it!!

Finally have some real Taiwanese mala hot pot place in the bay!!! I Went in on a Friday night with group of friends... Servers were all friendly .. Explain the menu very detail. Love the broth.. Make me miss home !! The meat was pretty good and fresh!! I love the pork!! Even though, they are little busy .. Can't get stuff right way.. But they have the greatest attitude ever...Keeping saying sorry n try to fixed it right away .. Feel sad for ppl that when they went in they have per cooked their meat .. But now they fully back to normal hot pot style... So if u haven't try them .. Give a try .. And if u been there before .. When they not fully function.. Give other try ... Especially meat lovers!! Their meat so fresh n soft! Oh ! forget mention they have the Draft beer machine IMPORTED from Japan!!! That's makes beer more tasty!! Yayy for Yum beer!!

Please read before you decide to eat here. I wish I can give zero stars. Don't come here unless you're looking for a long wait with pre-cooked hotpot with food you did not order and staff that does not care. 1. They have to pre-cook your food because they got in trouble with the fire department for not having proper ventilation. Fine, we get it, we can't get hot plates to cook the food like when we eat at regular hot pot restaurants. 2. 40 minutes into waiting, we saw the waitress serve the table next to us even though they placed the order after us. And the waitress also brought two extra plates of half cooked meat. The patron next to us asked about pork intestines and the waitress responded, "Oh this is not my table, I need to ask." She never returned. 3. We ended up waiting for around 55 minutes only to find out that they gave our order to the table next to us because the pot they gave us was filled with pork intestines!! We asked the waitress and she told us, "This is not my table, I need to ask." She never returned. 4. Sat around for another 5 minutes before going to the back to ask for the manager and asked him to come to our table so I can explain what happened. I told him that they gave us the wrong order, the table next to us asked about their pork intestines and never got a response, and they served us half cooked pork (remember they have to pre-cook everything because they can't have people cooking the food themselves). He just stared blankly at us with no response. I informed him that we don't want to wait any longer. He just watched us leave and did not provide any apologies, just simply stood there without uttering a single word or sound. Free advice to the restaurant - hire better personnel! Don't hire a waitress that escapes issues by never returning to addressing the problem and don't hire a manager that can't even handle some hiccup with customers. Figure out how you're going to pre-cook food for patrons in a timely fashion.

Another Taiwanese hot pot for the books! Our broth was half spicy Mala and the other half umami. I didn't try the umami side cause I always want spicy in my food but the Mala pot, I felt, had a little herbal taste to it and I'm pretty sure they used the bun bo hue sauce in it, but I still love it! Veggies were fresh and gives you a different variety of veggies in a white bowl that you share but it's still plenty. The only reason why I docked off one star is because the quality of the meat felt and tasted rough. Service was perfect. Out waiter was super chill, knew what he was talking about, made sure we knew what we were ordering since it was our first time, and he's very detailed when it comes to describing what you're about to order like describing the flavor of the dipping sauce and describing the broth. He was very tentative. Maaaaaaybe I'll come back but order another kind of meat.

Yay for a really authentic Taiwanese Hot Pot joint! Get the Taichi Pot - half side is a spicy mala broth and the other half is umami. Both broths were deliciously seasoned and yummy tasting, giving the meats and veggies a great flavor! We tried both the beef and the pork - decent portions and nice cuts of meat. Service was a pretty slow though since the place was so busy. Took a while to get refills for our water and took forever to get our check. They are definitely short staffed. Please hire more waiters :)

Can't comment on food since we never got to them... Would give zero stars if possible. Short version - NEVER COMING BACK AGAIN EVEN IF THE FOOD IS TO DIE FOR. Total lack of management and professionalism. The full story - Came in on a Sunday night, our group of 4 was seated within 10 minutes. The waitress explained right away that due to "jealousy from competitors" the fire department or health inspectors were tipped off about not having vents in the place. Since this "just happened a couple days ago" they will be cooking our food for us before the vents can be installed...!? Okay...since there were SO MANY 5 stars, we went with it. They gave us a free dish of kimchi and edamame for our trouble. Anything remotely good about the place stops here.... After waiting for 30 minutes, our free kimchi and edamame were long gone. Only then did we realized that almost half the restaurant is waiting for food. We were so excited when the table ordered right before us got their food after we 45 minutes of sitting the restaurant. But that excitement turned into confusion when the table that ordered after us got their food. Not quite sure what had happened at their table, we overheard the waitress saying, "Oh this is not my table, I'll go check for you" after serving them food. The waitress then disappears and took 2 plates of meat from their table. Then our food finally came out. All is still good, until we looked into the pot and saw intestines and noticing that the two plates of meat on our table were previously sitting on the neighboring table before being mysterious returned! Long story turns even longer when the waitress says she doesn't know what happened and disappears AGAIN! At this point it was useless to depend on anyone working here. We asked our neighboring table and figured out OURSELVES that they had served the food to the wrong tables. Note: still no answers from the waitresses for both table and the next table was already half way through the food. We were so upset and ignored that we had to walk to the back to bring the manager to our table. Told the manager that the food served wasn't our order. The manager said, "Okay". Told the manager that we don't eat the ingredients in the pot. The manager said, "Okay". Told the manager that the extra plate of PORK we has order was returned from the next table AND It's still RAW. The manager said. "Okay". Told him we are leaving because we don't want to wait another hour for our food. The manager said, "Okay". To top it all off, after we said we are leaving and the manager said okay he turned around and started greeting and chatting with his friends?!?!

I came on the soft opening. Price for a large pot was $25 (Note: Not all you can eat, but a good serving size). The angus beef was pretty tasty. It was very fresh, so I only needed to use a little bit of garlic and green onions to add to the taste. The soup base for the hot and mild side of the pot were very tasty. The hot side gives you this interesting feeling of spicy numbness. Where as the mild side is a gentle not too salty chicken base. They have tons of service people and are very friendly. They were very attentive to our questions such as the beer selection and choices of meet. A huge plus 1 for this place is the Taiwan Gold Label beer. OMG, my favorite beer when I am in Taiwan and you can get it right here. The restaurant is very new so the décor is still on the way. No fear, it does not effect the hot pots flavor. ; ) Overall, you have a nice thing going here. And Gold Medal Beer? One of my faves.

I was looking for a Taiwanese style hot pot for a long time, and I am glad I finally found a legitimate one. This restaurant just opened and have friendly staff. The owner here is very nice as well. I ordered beef, and the vegetable plate is more than enough. The meat itself is thick and tender, reminds me of the good times in Taiwan. Oh you have to order their Asahi draft beer, it's icy cold and smooth and goes well with the meat. They have Taiwanese beer as well. Price is reasonable for the generous portion. This is one of the better choices to go to for hotpot in the Silicon Valley. Definitely will come back again!

This is the place to come if you are looking for Taiwanese style hotpot in bay area. The meat selection has lamb, beef or pork, and the portion is more than generous. and it comes with a plate of sides such as fish ball, mushroom and vegetables. I ordered the combination pot has spicy and non spicy broth, and both are very good. The broths are not as heavy as Little sheep, but are more flavorful than One Pot. The place is spacious, and have friendly staffs. I would definitely be back soon and would definitely recommend the restaurant to people who enjoy shabu or hot pots.

Came here not expecting much, but it was actually quite good!! Very taiwanese. The soup is a lot like beef noodle soup and the noodles taste exactly like it!! Very yummy if you're craving that sort of flavor!! Didn't really like how they make you order everything separately tho.

I was surprised how this place was not packed during grand opening. I'm not sure if that was a good sign or a bad sign. TO THE REVIEW!! Right when I walked into the door it was pretty humid inside. I also notice that they did not have the vents to suck the steam from the broth. So any girls with frizzy hair that is caused by humidity stay away. I had the spicy broth I forgot the name, but if you look at the menu on the broth section its the one in red. Broth: The broth had a lot of kick to it, but the spice did not linger for a long time. They also provide you with a side of garlic and green onions to add to the broth. Meat: I got the kobe meat which had a lot of fat on it... too much for my taste. Veggies: Mushrooms, cabbage and some other things I couldn't tell what it was. Waitress: The staff was nice and they kept refilling my water which is a plus. Over all this place is a little too pricey for me for my taste, but the broth was pretty good. Try this place out and you decided.

This place is off the hook! I love, love, love this place! This place is so clean and the staff is always friendly and attentive. They have an upscale meat selection; Angus Beef, American-style Kobe and buta (pork), and the Taiwan Gold Metal beer to complete the meal. Yumm Yumm. I like that I have the option of both spicy and non spicy broth and they do the spicy broth just perfect! Definitely going back soon.

As a second hot pot restaurant location my boyfriend and I have been to, this place by far outweighed our expectations! The American Kobe beef was so tender to each bite, the broths flavorful, and sauces mouthgasmic. Our server Nini provided excellent service---checked on us every few minutes as well, refilling our broth as we kept eating, refilling our waters frequently, and asking if we wanted anything more to order. We will definitely be coming back, it is one of our new fave spots!

**CALL AHEAD!! STILL REMODELING SO THEY'RE CLOSED TUESDAY-THURSDAY, OPEN FRIDAY-SUNDAY** I would love to give this place 5 stars but the msg in the broth totally killed it for me :/. The broth is pretty flavorful and they have 3 choices of meat: beef, pork, and lamb ( which they said are GMO free and are fed a vegetarian meal!! Yay!!!) Their dipping sauce is sooo good!! Almost in comparison to Wujis, but A LOOOOT less saltier (both the broth and the sauce). Service was great. Waitress kept coming to refill our soup and water, asked us if needed anything and was just very attentive. Every time I consume something with a lot of msg, I get back aches and I get really tired/groggy. SAME thing happened to my friend so we think they used a lot of msg in the broth :(. At the end they give you this pineapple or mango vinegar shot, which sounds freaking disgusting but was actually pretty yummy! It definitely help cleanse my palate after all the that meaty goodness. Very refreshing. Hopefully they'll change that because this place is pretty good!!

The Mala broth is spicy but really good. We get the combo TaiChi Pot that has Mala and Umami broth and we steam the vegetables in that to balance out the heat from the Mala. The meat is really fresh. Service is really great, they're really busy but still really attentive and fast. Nice casual community feel. We're new to the area but will definitely be coming regularly.

This place has great service and great food. I love the mala spicy soup. Their style reminds me of Shabuway, but the soup is more spicy and flavorful in my opinion. They have very generous portions for a very fair price. Portions are way more than you can get from Wuji's Mala Hot Pot and definitely cleaner. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone. Nom nom nom...!

Ok, so based on previous reviews we decided to give this place a chance and check it out. Arrived just before 6 PM and got a table fairly quickly for the four of us. As we were sat down, our waitress informed us that due to a fire inspection they no longer allow any cooking at tables and all pots have to be made in the kitchen.Well that was a disappointment but ok we just went forward and ordered a large kobe beef, medium black angus beef and medium pork (we tried both broths), 2 sodas and 2 glasses of beer. However now the problem is the long wait for the food, my guess is the kitchen was never setup to cook orders in the first place, so like 50 mins later our food arrived. By then we were pretty hungry but the mala broth was covered with a thick layer of chili oil and it as hellfire hot, pretty much made 1/2 our pot very difficult to eat. The other broth was the seaweed clear broth, that was ok nothing to write home about but at least it was edible. The other problem we noticed was that for 3 orders of meat, we felt we did not get a whole lot of meat ( we suspect that they may have forgotten one of the orders) and what meat there was, was very overcooked the meat was chewy and rubbery. Service was mixed one waitress barely spoke any englsih and was of limited assistance, another waitress was more helpful. Then came the bill for the meal, for 3 orders (1 large, 2 med), 2 sodas and 2 glasses of beer it came out to be just over $100 including tip. Ugh... for that kind of money we were better off at One Pot in Cupertino or Shabuway on El Camino. And they seriously need to address the way they are going to serve food if they want to be a "hot pot" resturant, because right now its really a soup kitchen and a poor one at that.

I've gotta say, the mala hotpot I had at Taichi was a truly remarkable experience. The soup base was very delicious -- the mala broth was tastefully spicy but not overpowering while the umami broth goes perfectly with the high-grade beef. What makes the soup bases so great is the principle of making them with high quality ingredients as well as not using MSG. At my time of visit, the service was superb and friendly. Food was plentiful and the price was well worth it! Definitely worth dining at! Location wise this place could be a bit hard to find as it's located in a stripped mall, but now I know where it is, I'll definitely know how to get back there.

Food is freshly prepared, the soup is very special, comes with 2 different sauces and both are good, good service as well

The combination of great service, clean and modern interior, and delicious food earned this place a solid 4 stars. I have little kids so I am very appreciative of an establishment that caters to children (available high chairs, kids drink cups, menu items) and this place does it with a smile. The meat was good quality, broth was delicious, and veggies were plentiful. I am a big fan of hot pot and this restaurant places high on my list. What sold me on the place was how invested the staff were in the product they were selling. Our waiter encouraged us twice to taste the broth on its own because they were proud of how flavorful it was and even boasted that they had simmered the broth for 6 hours. I am looking forward to my next visit.

I finally have found my replacement for Wuji's. Forget Wuji's and switch it up to Taichi where the food and service is so much better. - Broth isn't as salty or flavorful as Wuji's broth but is still good. The restaurant will adjust the spicy level for you as needed. The waiters will come around and refill the broth without you having to ask. As a spicy lover, we didn't think the extra spicy was hot enough but they came over and fixed that right away. - Quality meat. None of the frozen crap you get at normal hot pot joints. Great fresh lamb and Australian Kobe beef. Each "entree" or meat order will come with assorted veggies, dumplings and noodles/rice. Veggies are fresh and plentiful and side order portions are generous. I paid $3 at Wuji's for 2.5 leaves of napa cabbage. Never again... - Service is outstanding. I hope they keep it up because they were really attentive. - BBQ dipping sauce and vinegar sauce was good and plentiful. Will definitely be back on a cold night.

I have been looking for a hot pot place with legitimate Taiwanese spicy hot pot and I found it here!!!! This is such a new place so first thing I did - Yelp it!! Only less than 50 reviews but my friends and I decided to give it a try. Turned out to be a wonderful foodie night with a fatty belly =] We ordered Kobe beef, lamb, and pork. The server quickly set up the table and brought out the food. Everything looked so good that we couldn't wait to start eating. Broths - Came with one side of spicy broth and another side of non-spicy broth. Both of them weren't salty as expected but very flavorful. The staff suggested us to drink some of the broths like soup and it tasted like a ramen soup. Very interesting way to enjoy the broths. Meats - Seeing all the marble texture on Kobe beef. Very good quality and they melt in mouth. Veggie - Came with Enoki mushrooms, cabbage, tofu..etc. Great portion to balance with all the meat consumed. We were there eating and drinking for more than an hour. The staff came to us very often to add broth to our pot and make sure everything is OK. Overall, it was a amazing experience here with all the food and friendly staff. If you are looking for quality, this is the place you should go to. They serve different kinds of alcoholic beverage to complete your hot pot experience!

I love their nonspicy broth!! They spent 6 hours making the soup with natural ingredients and it tastes flavorful and delicious. The filet fish was very fresh also. The spicy broth was a bit too spicy for me though but overall, it was good. I also love their customer service! Very nice and attentive! Must give this place a try. :)

The fishball, crabsticks & udon noodles are my favorite sides from here. I like ordering their pork meat & the sauce is awesome! The drink they serve at the end of your meal is simply the best! Will definitely come here again!

This place is indeed brilliant, consistent, and in fact they are "AUTHENTIC" on top of aromatic!!! As a Taiwanese I can definitely tell how close Taichi pot is compared to popular ones in Taiwan. Mala hot pot tastes incredibly great and kobe beef I got had beautiful marbling with strong taste. Most Chinese hot pot places use low quality meat tastes like jerky, and I'm glad they used high quality meat so the broth doesn't become useless. I'm sure they use same quality meat like one pot or expensive ones you can buy from Marukai supermarket. The huge plate of meat plus ingredient plate (I wouldn't call it just vegetable plate cuz it's got my favorite egg dumplings and cuttlefish balls YAY!!) filled up all of us. Service also makes us feel like we are back to Taiwan because servers are friendly and fast! A huge plus compared to most unpleasant experiences out there. The whole restaurant looks really clean with great ambience, and restroom looks elegant and "CLEAN". I'll come back at least on monthly basis and finally I don't have to travel back to Taiwan to have spicy hot pot. AS AUTHENTIC AS IT GETS WITH EXCELLENT SERVICE!

100% AUTHENTIC TAIWANESE HOT POT!!!!! YES OH YES!!! The taste of mala broth is exactly the same as ones I had when I went back to Taiwan. They also serve various ingredients that are exclusively seen in Taiwanese hot pot restaurants. Even the service is authentic Taiwanese style that everyone just saying "HUAN YING GUANG LING" (Welcome) to greet as soon as we entered!! We had some mini pots with both mala and umami broth. The American kobe beef and Japanese kurobuta both tasted like heaven! Personally, I'm a beef lover but the pork they offered have a creamy and rich taste. They surely used meat with quality that tops One Pot and Shabuway. Portions are more than enough to fill us up and best thing about Taichi is that you get to taste delicious broth after eating. Two thumbs up for Taichi!! Our server told us they will be offering the original hot pot style in about a month so even better. I can imagine how packed this place is going to be during weekends especially when it gets colder in a couple months!!! I am a 100% FOB from Taiwan and take my words on this LOL! The best hot pot place in Bay area!!!

Came in after I saw the reviews. I don't know if it's a shabuway killer. It's not that bad of a place. Waiters are helpful. Our first times there we didn't know which was the special sauce. We had to ask the waitress and it is the sauce that looks like just scallions. It's pretty good. It would be nice if the waiters would introduce the sauces instead of thinking we know which sauces to use. They were helpful and refilled water cups and asked if we needed anything. Service is why I rated this place 4 stars. If there were a three and a half I would. The food is decent. Don't know if it's a shabuway killer. Will come back but it's not to die for in my opinion. Mala sauce is best choice for broth with Kobe beef.

Good to have another Taiwanese style hotpot nearby, with similar mala flavor as HIT but a carefully prepared veggie broth that i liked. Quality meat but slice is not as thin as some other hotpot places so you may find sliced meat become chewy if overcooked. Overall a healthy choice on a cold fall/winter day!

So excited to try this new Taiwanese hotpot with excellent review. We went early last evening and was told everything has to precooked before served. I was thinking of leaving but our waitress was sincerely very helpful and kept seeing lots of customers in so we decided to give it a try. We waited 20mins for a Mala hotpot ... Its like order a Sukiyaki beef in a Japanese restaurant except the super spicy mala hotpot that had nothing underneath to warm up;Why Wuji could do it and not TaiChi? Who's the jealous busy body to report this new and well decored restaurant to Fire dept? noticed alot of tables around were empty still waiting for food.(cant imagine they cook each pot one by one in the small kitchen?) i ordered a large size to share added some side dishes ($7) to meet the minimum order requirements. When the so-called hotpot was served, kobe beef were all under veggies .... we then hurry up and rescued beef and put it aside on a plate .... just to see all well done dark color beef instead of medium rare as ordered and after 25~35mins of eating..the spicy soup is getting cold and sticky...and Kobe beef is tough like jerky (even we already took out the beef to avoid)... My friend and I had no mood to eat the warm cold pot anymore. We then hurry up to check out $35 for 2 oh much more than One Pot Sumo. We brought the leftover to go. We both got to our home and had diarrhea I ended up in bathroom for over one hour busy back and forth, my stomach still hurting after 12hours. What's wrong? A good lesson =warm Mala is never good oil got condensed and thickened soup .. My Sunday probably end up resting. Its a shame they still dare to charge same listed price when everything came out to be a unsatisfied meal.

The food is just okay but no better than Wuji Hal's house. The service is really poor, we waited for more than 30 minutes to get our broth and they serve us the wrong thing. Wouldn't recommend it.

Randomly stumbled upon this place on yelp. Its right by my house and I always visit the ROSS store in the same plaza but never noticed this restaurant. Enjoyed our meal here and staff was extremely friendly. They even offered for us to To-go our unfinished meats and soup! I've heard of other Hot Pot places that refuse to let you take the unfinished soup togo.

The service here is terrible. No organization among the servers and they disappear in the back, never to be seen for 20 minutes or longer. Pre-cooked shabu??? Are you kidding me? This place is a cop out, I'd rather go to One Pot Shabu or somewhere else. Much better service and much better quality of food, I wont come back to this location anymore.

Amazing broth. I wish I could have bought a tub home to eat with rice - I'm still craving it now! Definitely recommend ordering the Asahi beer. It's perfectly crisp and refreshing with the mala and umami broth. Loved the tarte passion fruit palate cleanser at the end, too. Can't wait to go back!

Really nothing special about this place. Meet quality is average, but soup base and dipping sauce are just right out of a supermarket. The setup here is very crammed. Tables are small for hotpot. Service is attentive but very very inexperienced. Our pot came with very little soup. And the waiters didn't really refill it until much later. Overall thought is that this place is really not worth the money (25-30 per person). Most of the competitors have better service, food, and ambiance

It is not bad. Good customer service. Good qaulity meat but only two kind of broth. Not many vegies. If i have to choose, i prefer one pot more than this place because ine pot has more choices and three size.

  • Helen H.

The soup base was very herbal and fresh. I like the Umami more than the spicy soup base. Customer service was good and they fill your soup automatically before the level gets too low. What stood out the most was the snake river farm beef, which was very unique and delicious. You also receive an interesting drink at the end that has a kick to it.

Food is OK, but HORRIBLE service. Went on the 2nd day it opened, waited 30 mins and asked three waitresses to check in order to get the broth served. Then the meat was served 10 mins later, had to push the waitress to serve the vegetable and sauces which took another 15mins. No mention the beers that never got served. I thin I will go to other similar places next time, like Shabuway.

Our first visit here was actually during the time that they served the "pre-cooked" personal pots. We LOVED it! Unlike many other reviewers, we enjoyed the personal pots a lot. It reminded me of the Boiling Point hot pots in LA. For those who are just now falling into the Hot Pot craze, the personal and "pre-cooked" mini hot pot has been existence FOREVER in Asia... so don't be like "Oh, this is not hot pot..." if you don't know what you are talking about. Now, onto the food itself. The broth is excellent - both the spicy and the non-spicy one. The non-spicy one has a clean taste, not so "meaty" since it's fish-based. The veggies that come with the hot pot is not fancy but good - napa cabbage, fish balls, taro roots, etc. Enough for someone who isn't gorging themselves with food. Now that they switch back to their original format, I'm somewhat disappointed but am still glad the flavor of the broth and the quality of the meat stayed the same. The service there is very friendly. Since the "big change", their cliental had taken a dip. Which is nice for us cuz there's never a real long wait now. But, I can see business picking back up again for all the people that were whining about the mini hot pot format. Good food is good food no matter what plate they serve it on.

Food was good. We had Taichi pot. Kobe beef and pork were very good. Their special sauce is pretty good, too. Service was Ok. We understand it is new restaurant. We did get all we need within reasonable waiting time. The thing is they charge additional $5 sharing fee for children. My husband was not very happy about this policy. They didn't even have kid's meal for us to order. We ordered two main entrees and one extra side order, which is $5, for two adults and one child. I believe this is really reasonable food amount for us. Since it is hot pot, we don't want to order 3 entrees and have tons of leftover. It will be more reasonable policy that if customer orders extra side, the $5 dollar children share fee should be waived. Or it will better that they offer kid's meal like Shabuway.

I really want to support Taiwanese business, but seriously don't waste your time here. Called and made reservation but this place did not honor it. Waitresses did not care about customers. The first waitress just turned around and continued her work after hearing our question about reservation. The second one did not explain what happened to our reservation but wanted us to wait 20-30 minutes. No way.

This is probably the most authentic Taiwanese spicy hot pot in town. I'm a huge fan of Taiwanese spicy hot pot (MA LA GUO) and this is yet the best I've had in the Bay Area. We had a party of 6 (5 adults and 1 toddler) and went in on a Friday dinner at around 7PM, the place was packed but we were lucky enough to have a big table for us. The server immediately brought over a high chair and sat us down. We ordered the American Kobe beef, pork, lamb, and some other side orders (the intestines and tofu is AWESOME!!!). Everything was delicious and the meat quality is equivalent or better to those high end shabu shabu meat you can find in the supermarket. We also order a pitcher of its draft Asahi beer and I notice something different about the beer. I asked the owner and he told me that the beer is direct import from Japan, not the other Asahi you find in other restaurants or supermarkets that are made in Canada. I LOVE IT!!! Both of the soup broth was so good that we kept asking for refilling the broth, but unlike other hot pot places, they give you the actual broth instead of water or watered down broth for refills. Overall, I give the highest rating for this restaurant for its food quality, attentive and friendly services, and its Japan import Asahi beer!!! If you're ever craving for some hot pot, Taichi is highly recommended.

Upon entering, you can tell that the ambiance is much different than usual hotpot places. Decorations are nice, and the restroom is very nice. Also, the spicy hotpot is very nice, not spicy enough to make it not possible to eat, but at the perfect level that it goes really well with a beer ( They have really good asahi too!!) Also, the meat quality is much higher than most other places that i have been to, but given that the prices are higher, this is expected too. The waiters are nice, and hard working, and for a chinese restaurant i was surprised at how well the service was. Only thing is i wish there were more things on the menu.

Four of us came here but decided three meats would be enough. BEWARE!!! They tack on a $7.50 "SHARING FEE". I asked if we get anything extra for that fee and they said no. Also kids 3+ also get a $5 "fee" as well. We also asked if we could order 3 meays and a large ($13) side dish but our waitress said there would also be an additional $7.50 sharing fee. I cannot recommend this place when all other hot pot restaurants I've been to never had any kind of fees.

I'm sorry but this is not the place to go if you want hot pot. The normal broth had no flavor and the spicy one was so salty. Also I didn't drink any of the water cause the cups were dirty as well. There were stains on them The good thing is that you get seated fast but I don't know if it's worth it Go to little sheep or one pot

First time at this hot pot place and I am already very impressed!! They said their soup is totally drinkable and made from all natural ingredients, well, they aren't kidding! We got the half-spicy-half-not-spicy and it was a perfect balance. I prefer to alternative between the two when cooking the meat. We got lean Kobe, Kobe SRF, and black angus, and they are all very excellent. The meat is freshly cut and not frozen. They even have Taiwanese beer! Will definitely return!

I were here on Thursday for the buy 1 get 1 free. The waiters were really nice and explained the requirement. 1) write a review on Yelp 2) share a photo of their food. And also if you check in on yelp, you will get free refillable beverage. Here are what we ordered Soup base: Taichung Pot Half & Half (Spicy side is not that spicy) Meat: American Wagyu Kobe Beef Imperial (Must Order) American Wagyu Kobe Beef SRF Stewed Meat: Stewed Trio (include beef tendon, tripe, and intestine) Vegetable: Napa Cabbage Tong Ho (must order for hot pot) Noodle: Thick Vermicelli Overall the quality are really good. Size is also enough. I heard that Unami Savory soup base is also worth a try. Would like to come back again!

Went here on a Wednesday night to catch up with a good friend. We ended up getting the Wagyu, Lamb, and Kurobata Pork along with lesser sides such as vegetables. The quality of the meat was good, slices were thick and juicy. The broth was okay, but the quality of the meat overshadowed that. This is one of the better hot pot places in the area among One Pot and Little Sheep which is nice to switch up once in a while. The price is pretty good as well ranging between $7 - $11 per plate of meat. Would recommend!

Been here a few times and it definitely deserves a review. This used to be the go-to place for hot pot because it had a nice combo menu where you order the meat and it comes with a veggie combo. However, they have recently changed their menu and follow Little Sheep's model where everything is ordered a-la-carte. Not only is it more expensive now but you are forced to eat a lot of each dish because each dish comes as an order. My friends have stopped coming because they do not like the new system. Nevertheless I still think this place deserves a good rating. I think the meat quality is quite good here and I appreciate the effort by the owner to make the soup MSG free. We typically order the Kobe Beef and Berkshire Pork with various vegetables. I like the mala (spicy) soup base for cooking the meat/veggie but love drinking the broth from the non-spicy umami soup base.

Good service and fast speed Refill drinks!!! That's awesome! And they have free refills for oolong tea!!! My favorite Meat is fresh and comes with dipping source We went for half and half which is great!!! It's located in the same plaza as Sumiya.

Went here for a mother's day shindig and went as early as their opening hour. Funny thing: they asked if we had reservations as if it mattered because they were so busy at the time -__-. I looked around and there was ABSOLUTELY NOBODY THERE! Anyways, service could have been better, but the four stars are for the quality of food and the cleanliness of the place. Otherwise, this would be a three star review. Would I go back? Meh, there are other places to visit. There wasn't anything that absolutely wow'd me to come back again.

I've been a long-time fan of Little Sheep, but wanted to try something new, and I'm never in the mood for a five hour wait at Little Sheep. Of course I'm going to compare the two... Ambiance: I think I would prefer Little Sheep. As much as I don't like waiting, I like a packed restaurant. What can I say? I enjoy people watching. I was anticipating Taichi to be busy, but it wasn't. My friend and I came around 7pm on a Thursday night. I would say the restaurant was about half full, and pretty quiet to what I'm used to. Menu Selection: Little Sheep has more items to choose from, including random side dishes like jellyfish, which I LOVE. I felt as though Taichi didn't have as many noodle and vegetable options, either. Little Sheep has winter melon, something I rarely see on the menu anywhere. BUT, Taichi offers tofu noodles. WHERE has this been all my life? It was just as satisfying as regular noodles without the guilt! I highly, highly, highly suggest you try them. Meat: I feel that the quality of meat at Taichi was better, as well as the portion size. Broth: I think Taichi takes the cake on this one. Their spicy broth soaked up so perfectly with everything that I put into the pot (not that Little Sheep's doesn't, but I prefer Taichi's). The spice was on point! We ordered the half and half, which is half Mala (spicy) broth and half umami broth. The umami broth was really good, too, though I always go for the spicy. What I liked about Taichi's broth was that it wasn't as oily as Little Sheep's, though both are tasty. Verdict??? I can't decide. It really all depends on how hungry you are. If I'm HANGry, I'll have to go with Taichi because they give the quality and quantity WITHOUT the massive wait. However, if I'm looking for variety and ambiance, I would probably go with Little Sheep.

Of all the hot pot places i have been, this place is by far the most unique. They split spicy and regular soups for you so you can get the best of both worlds. They also serve quail eggs which makes this the first ive seen to serve that. Definitely going to come back. Great place to bring a large party to feast!

Solid addition to the South Bay hot pot scene. I recently moved from LA where awesome hot pot is a dime a dozen and it's rare to find a place in the bay that's comparable. The place had a good ambience with helpful wait staff that's always ready to help. There's a good selection of meats, vegetables, seafood and a variety of fish balls all at affordable prices. Alcohol prices are also reasonable with pitcher options for the usual Sapporo and Asahi varieties. There are no issues with parking as it's in a shopping center with a number of other stores. All in all, a great hotpot option for the cold Bay Area nights!

Taichi Mala Hot spot has very fast and friendly service. Generous portions and a large variety of choices for the price (especially the scallops). The mala isn't too spicy - perfect spiciness! The non spicy broth is also flavorful. One minor suggestion. Would for them to have more choices in sauces. Would definitely come back!

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions.
